The Pegasus (ペガサス, Pegasasu^?, hull number: LMSD-70) is an assault landing ship introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-. It is the name ship of the Pegasus-class .

Technology & Combat Characteristics

The Pegasus is an amphibious assault ship developed by the Earth Federation Forces (EFF) as part of their RX Project. It was originally intended to be used in tandem with EFF's mobile suits such as RX-78-01 01 Gundam, RX-78-02 White Gundam, and RX-77-02 Guncannon. In order to launch the mobile suits it was equipped with a catapult on each of its "front leg" unit. While mainly designed as mobile suit carrier, it also boast a high firepower, such as a large main gun, a mega particle cannon as secondary weapon, and numerous amount of missiles throughout its hulls. It also equipped with Minovsky Craft System which make it capable of operating in 1G environment on planet like Earth .

History

In U.C. 0079 the Pegasus was undergoing its final testing phase while docked at Side 7. During a Zeon attack on the colony, the Pegasus was unable to escape the dock, leading to the destruction of its bridge by the hijacked RX-78-02 White Gundam piloted by Char Aznable. After that it was captured by the Zeon forces and refitted into the Sodon .

Notes & Trivia

• The ship at Side 7 being the Pegasus instead of the White Base previously happened in Mobile Suit Gundam novel.
  • According to mechanical designer, Ikuto Yamashita, several Pegasus-class ships were built. The first ship and name ship, the Pegasus, came to Side 7 in GQuuuuuuX instead of the White Base—and that drew the bad luck .
• A close-up in episode 2, The White Gundam, shows the Sodon retaining some of the hull markings of the original ship, with one of the hull markings showing "LMSD-70", which is one lesser than that of the White Base, "LMSD-71" .
• Unlike the White Base which had its centrifuge deck rotate along the ship's lateral axis (forward-to-back), the Pegasus has the deck rotate along its longitudinal axis (side-to-side). The latter version's centrifuge deck is also larger and visible from the outside.
