The Pale Rider Project is a mobile suit development project introduced in the Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Missing Link video game and manga.

Overview[]

The Pale Rider Project is a mobile suit development project that was launched by Grave in an effort to create a next-generation machine for the Earth Federation Forces.

History[]

After the Earth Federation Forces began mass production of the RGM-79 GM, the focus of its mobile suit development efforts turned to developing next-generation machines using the most advanced technology available at the time and an open-ended budget. To this end, the mobile suit research organization Grave was created. However, Grave operated independently from the Earth Federation Forces and launched the Pale Rider Project to achieve its goal with no regards as to the means taken to do so. It used the the RX-80, a one-of-a-kind experimental high-spec mobile suit frame that was deemed impractical and mothballed, and the EXAM System as a base for the mobile suits of this project and performed numerous experiments on pilots in order to bring out the maximum potential in their creations.

Using the first two prototype units of this project, the RX-80WR White Rider and RX-80RR Red Rider, sufficient data was collected for the development of project's core mobile suit, the RX-80PR Pale Rider. Even so, a third prototype unit, the RX-80BR Black Rider, was created to test special equipment and it also has a simplified version of the system that was intended to be used for a mass production unit, making it indirectly related to the Pale Rider. In parallel with this, Grave sought out various methods of creating better pilots by procuring orphans and performing various undisclosed experiments on them, resulting in one "success" in Chloe Croce. She and the Pale Rider were then sent on various black-ops to further Grave's interests and continue testing the Pale Rider's capabilities. After collecting data on the Pale Rider's performance in live combat, a mass production test unit was created, the RX-80PR-2 Pale Rider Cavalry.

Mobile Suits Developed[]

The 1st prototype unit of the Pale Rider Project. It was installed with ZEUS, a special fire control assistance system and an early version of what would become the HADES system. Besides testing ZEUS, the White Rider was also used to test the composite weapon system, Shekinah. After finishing its testing, it was transferred to the Black Dog Team, and deployed in actual combat during the North American Counteroffensive Operations.
The 2nd prototype unit of the Pale Rider Project. It was installed with an experimental system named AREUS, the prototype of the HADES, and given to the Aggressor Squadron for testing. Red Rider remained with the Aggressor Squadron after finishing its testing.
The 3rd prototype unit of the Pale Rider Project. It was built to test out special technologies. It was equipped with Steelyard, a pair of back-mounted discs that give it electronic warfare capabilities, an Active Camo system capable of rendering the entire mobile suit almost invisible to the naked eye and THEMIS, a simplified HADES system. After finishing its testing, it was transferred to the Black Dog Team, and deployed in actual combat during the North American Counteroffensive Operations.
The core of the Pale Rider Project. It was built with the HADES core unit installed in its head and deployed on various black-ops missions.
The mass production test unit of the Pale Rider Project. It has a simplified HADES system with a limiter placed on it to ease the burden on the pilot, though there was still risk of the unit going berserk.
