Operation Uroboros (April Fools Crisis) is a conflict of the First Alliance-PLANT War, featured in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

Prelude[]

Following the Bloody Valentine Incident, the PLANT colony Junius Seven was destroyed by a nuclear missile fired from a TS-MA2 Moebius mobile armor at the command of Muruta Azrael. Seeking to prevent such an incident from happening again, ZAFT scientists began working on a way to disable the Earth Alliance's usage of nuclear weapons, leading to the creation of the Neutron Jammer, a device that could suppress the usage of nuclear fission, rendering them useless.

Using the tragedy of Junius Seven as justification, a number of PLANT Supreme Council councilors, including Patrick Zala, pushed for the deployment of Neutron Jammers on Earth and justify it as prevention of Alliance nuclear attack. Although the then-Supreme Council Chairman Siegel Clyne is reluctant, the support for N-Jammer deployment was large enough that he had to authorize Operation Uroboros; deploying Neutron Jammers on Earth.

The Battle[]

The exact details of the battle are not known. ZAFT forces entered Earth orbit in April 1st C.E. 70, and engaged the Alliance forces stationed there. Despite the Earth Alliance's best efforts, they could not stop the deployment, many of the craft broke through the atmosphere and, upon landing, launched the N-Jammers into the Earth.[1][2]

Aftermath[]

In the aftermath of the drop, nuclear fission was suppressed thanks to the usage of N-Jammers. As many cities relied on nuclear energy for power source, the N-Jammers' activation brought much of the Earth to a standstill, bringing about death by freezing and starvation due to lack of power. This also gave ZAFT the advantage as the Earth Alliance could no longer use nuclear weapons against them, prompting the creation of the G-Weapons to counter ZAFT's mobile suits.

Following the end of the First Alliance-PLANT War, nuclear power plants were outfitted with Neutron Jammer Cancellers as ZAFT was tasked with digging up the N-Jammers that were still active.
