The One Week Battle (一週間戦争, One Week Battle^?) is a conflict of the One Year War, featured in Mobile Suit Gundam.

The Battle

At 7:20 a.m. on January 3, 0079, the Principality of Zeon suddenly declares war on the Earth Federation government. Immediately after that, the Zeon Army's Dozle Fleet Mobile Suit Forces attacked the Earth Federation Fleet stationed on each side. The mobile suit units belonging to the Kycilia Fleet took control of the lunar city of Granada. After each of the armies finished attacking and suppressing, they raided the space colonies of sides 1, 2, and 4 that stood on the side of the Earth Federation. The inhabitants were massacred with NBC weapons, and in the process, one colony of Side 2, Island Iffish, was dropped on Earth during Operation British, causing unprecedented damage. The battles leading up to January 10 are specifically referred to as the One Week Battle, which killed 5.5 billion people out of a total of 11 billion.

Aftermath

The use of Colonies and NBC weapons horrified the civillians and military order of the Earth Federation, as a result of Operation British the city of Sydney was completely destroyed. Zeon would have to fight the Battle of Loum in the coming days as Earth Federation Forces were gathering a massive fleet in a show of force. As a direct result of this battle the Antarctic Treaty was signed and the use of all NBC weapons or space colonies as weapons was formally banned.

Despite the banning of dropping colonies there would be future Zeon forces that would continue to drop colonies on the Earth as both a military action and a political statement. This practice would evolve in the 0080s as Zeon forces would instead turn to asteroids to maximize damage to the Earth.
