The OMS-90R Gundam F90 Mars Independent Zeon Forces Type is a mobile suit introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam F90 manga.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
After its capture by Mars Zeon, the F90 Gundam F90 Unit 2 was extensively modified. More than 80% of the mobile suit's exterior has been replaced, and the modifications were done with the aim of making it compatible with the maintenance/spare parts owned by the Mars Independent Zeon Forces (also known as "Oldsmobile"), and priority was given to parts with high wear and tear rates, such as the drive unit and exterior. In addition to the spike armor on the left shoulder and the exposed power pipe around the collar, which were meant to make it look more like a Zeon MS, the sensors have been enlarged and apogee motors have been added.
Although the most prominent feature of the original Gundam F90, the ability to mount the Mission Packs, has been removed, the Mars Zeon installed a different hardpoint system as they plan on equipping the modified Gundam F90 Unit 2 with new optional equipment. Notably, the forearms are now equipped with connection mounts capable of supplying huge amount of energy, and one theory is that this is for the equipping of beam shields. Other parts of the Gundam F90 Unit 2 such as its basic avionics system and the pseudo-personality computer remain untouched, and so its performance is mostly unchanged. However, the Gundam's mobility is slightly lowered due to being heavier, but it has improved defensive power in close combat and this resulted in the mobile suit's individual performance being enhanced.
Armaments[]
- Vulcan Gun
- A pair of shell-firing weapon built into the head. Though not powerful, its high rate of fire meant it was employed to intercept incoming missiles, etc.
- Beam Saber
- The beam saber is a small device held in the mobile suit's hands when deployed and is powered by a rechargeable energy capacitor. It emits high-energy Minovsky particles to form a blade-shaped I-field (via manipulation of electromagnetic fields), and then fills this I-field shell with superheated Minovsky particle plasma to produce an effective cutting blade. The base model had two of these, but this version has only one, stored on the right side of the backpack.
- Anti-MS Grenade
- Equipped with four grenades, two on each of the waist side skirts. When in use, the grenades are fired from cylindrical launch tubes.
- Beam Machine Gun
- A portable firearm with a shape reminiscent of the MMP-80 machine gun. When not in use, it is mounted on the rear skirt's weapon rack.
- Shield
- A physical handheld shield that resembles the shoulder shield of the MS-06 Zaku II.[1]
- Beam Shield
- An experimental beam shield generator is mounted on the left shoulder of a second Gundam F90 Mars Independent Zeon Forces Type. Unlike an I-field generator, which is effective only against beam attacks, the beam shield blocks both beam and projectile weapons. Unfortunately, due to the beam shield's high power consumption, the Gundam F90 Mars Independent Zeon Forces Type could not use it and the beam saber simultaneously. However, it is possible to use the beam shield like a beam blade.[1]
Special Equipment & Features[]
- Type-C.A. III Pseudo-Personality Computer
- Inherited from the Gundam F90 Unit 2, it improves the mobile suit's mobility and is said to be programmed with the pseudo-personality of Char Aznable.
- Weapon Rack
- Located on the rear skirt armor, it is used for storing external weapons such as the Beam Machine Gun.
- Hardpoints
- The Gundam F90 Mars Independent Zeon Forces Type is equipped with three hardpoints for mounting optional equipment and armaments to meet specific needs or combat situations.
History[]
Mobile Suit Gundam F90[]
In U.C. 0120, the F90 Gundam F90 Unit 2 was captured by the Mars Zeon near Side 4 and then modified using the parts they have and repainted in a distinctive red-orange-white color scheme, resulting in the Gundam F90 Mars Independent Zeon Forces Type. The Earth Federation Forces's 13th Autonomous Fleet was subsequently sent to destroy Mars Zeon and capture the Gundam F90 Mars Independent Zeon Forces Type. Later, during the fight in the Mars Zeon's Olympus Mons base, the Gundam F90 Mars Independent Zeon Forces Type piloted by Bosch Weller battled against the Gundam F90 Unit 1 piloted by Def Stallion. Both units were heavily damaged, but in a final move reminiscent of the final battle between the RX-78-2 Gundam and the MSN-02 Zeong, Unit 1 emerged victorious.[2] The remains of both mobile suits were retrieved and Gundam F90 Mars Independent Zeon Forces Type was rebuilt into the F90II Gundam F90II.
Mobile Suit Gundam F90 Cluster[]
In an alternate re-telling of the fight in the Mars Zeon's base, two Gundam F90 Mars Independent Zeon Forces Type were deployed. The first and original unit, piloted by Bosh, fought against several RGM-111 type B.T. Hardygun Blitzkriegs before confronting Gundam F90 Unit 1. The second unit, a copy created by Mars Zeon, was being upgraded in hangar 7 when Ivana Daru decided to activate it to fend off another Hardygun Blitzkrieg.[1]
