The OMS-90R2 Mars Gundam (aka F90V/F90 Fifth) is a replica of OMS-90R Gundam F90 introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam F90 Cluster manga.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The OMS-90R2 is a creation of reverse engineered technology from the captured F90 Gundam F90 Unit 2 by the Mars Zeon.[1] Its basic design was mostly the same as the Mars Zeon F90, but unlike its predecessor this particular unit inherited the F90 hardpoints mounted throughout its fuselage.[2] These hardpoints are compatible with both Zeon technology, equipments, and also F80 Gunraid mission packs. It was also designed in mind to be equipped with Mars made HULL Fighter, which was supported by the implementation of Psyco Frame in its fuselage.[2]

Armaments[]

  • Vulcan Gun
A pair of shell-firing weapon built into the head. Though not powerful, its high rate of fire meant it was employed to intercept incoming missiles, etc.
  • Beam Saber
The beam saber is a small device held in the mobile suit's hands when deployed and is powered by a rechargeable energy capacitor. It emits high-energy Minovsky particles to form a blade-shaped I-field (via manipulation of electromagnetic fields), and then fills this I-field shell with superheated Minovsky particle plasma to produce an effective cutting blade. These beam sabers are mounted on each side of the side skirts.
  • Beam Machine Gun
A portable firearm with a shape reminiscent of the MMP-80 machine gun. When not in use, it is mounted on the rear skirt's weapon rack.
  • Long Beam Rifle
An experimental beam rifle model that can be mounted on the right forearm.[3]
  • Beam Shield
An experimental beam shield generator is mounted on the left shoulder of a second Mars Gundam. Unlike an I-field generator, which is effective only against beam attacks, the beam shield blocks both beam and projectile weapons. Unfortunately, due to the beam shield's high power consumption, the Mars Gundam could not use it and the beam saber simultaneously. However, it is possible to use the beam shield like a beam blade.[3]
  • Anti-MS Grenade
Equipped with four grenades.
  • Heat Hawk
An axe-shaped close combat weapon, it uses a super-heated blade to cut through the armor of enemy MS or vehicles.

Special Equipment & Features[]

  • AI System
A special A.I system that increased the Mars Gundam Performance.[2]
  • Weapon Rack
Located on the rear skirt armor, it is used for storing external weapons such as the Beam Machine Gun.
  • Hardpoints
The Mars Gundam is equipped with six hardpoints for mounting optional equipment and armaments to meet specific needs or combat situations.

History[]

In U.C. 0121, the Mars Gundam was deployed during the Earth Federation Forces siege on Olympus Mons Fortress, and this particular piloted by Ivalu Dana. During the battle she manage to disable several RGM-111BT Hardygun Blitzkriegs in the process.[3] Shortly after that, it was ambushed by several F80 (Death Guns Specifications) while trying to escape the fortress. While the Mars Gundam performance is relatively high, it was nearly defeated by Death Guns' F80, but it was saved by a HULL Fighter and it combined into Gundam F90 N-Type Verethragna.[4] Sometimes after the battle with Death Guns' F80, it was taken to SNRI facility on Earth by the surviving 13th Autonomous Fleet, and given a new designation F90V (or F90 Fifth).[2]

Variants[]

  • OMS-90R2-X Mars Gundam Half X Type
Featured in the manga Mobile Suit Gundam F90 Cluster, it is the Mars Gundam equipped with the Zenovia Composite Weapon and Arm Beam Saber unit of the X-Type mission pack during the Pan African Liberation Army attack on EFF's Manyara base on Africa.[5] It mainly act to provide covering fire for F90 Gundam F90 Half X Type, due to the incomplete repair of the F90 Gundam F90 Unit 1 and It manage to shot down several enemy mobile suits in the process.[6]
