The Noisy Fairy Squadron (ノイジー・フェアリー隊 Noijī Fearī Tai?), officially the Earth Attack Force 2nd Terrestrial Mobile Division 11th MS Battalion HQ Special Forces Team, was a Principality of Zeon mobile suit squadron introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation Code Fairy.
Overview[]
Noisy Fairy was Zeon's first all-female mobile suit squadron formed by parts of Zeon under Kycilia Zabi's control. While the all-female nature was seemingly unintentional, this would lead to it being mockingly code named "Noisy Fairy". While the name was originally intended as a mild insult, its members would "own it", adopting fairy iconography and using fairy associated names for most of its war materiel.
Noisy Fairy's actions would prove so harmful to Federation efforts, it gained enough notoriety among Federation soldiers they would dedicate an entire squadron to countering its actions. Playing off Noisy Fairy's reputation among Federation soldiers as Zeonic "Witches", the group would be named Witch Hunt Squadron. Witch Hunt Squadron never succeeded in its goals, and Noisy Fairy would end the war with its entire roster alive.
Due to its clandestine nature as well as the interference of Zabi family politics, Noisy Fairy did not officially exist in Zeonic records. Despite this, the team acquired a substantial reputation among both Zeon and Federation forces that left little doubt to its existence.
History[]
Noisy Fairy's roster was finalized on September 18th 0079 with Alma Stirner's transfer. It would see action shortly after, repelling stolen Zaku I and Zaku II units stolen by the Federation, during which the squad would get its first taste of combat together. Alma Stirner would lead Mia Brinkman and Helena Hegel into combat as Fairy Leader, Fairy 2, and Fairy 3 respectively. In October, not long after the state funeral of Garma Zabi, Noisy Fairy would participate in a mission in the Seattle area to intercept supply lines in an effort to prevent the Federation from establishing a foothold from which to launch a campaign against California Base. While the operation was successful, resistance manifested in the form of Federation pilot Lilith Aiden and her RGM-79[G] GM Ground Type. Filled with hate over the loss of her family to Zeon forces Lilith aggressively attacked Noisy Fairy and incapacitated Mia in the process, forcing Alma and Helena to confront her alone. Alma's Newtype abilities caused her to sense Lilith's hatred and bloodlust, but she was able to push past the feeling of intimidation and successfully defeated Lilith. Helena's attempt to finish Lilith off was thwarted by her commanding officer, Barry Abbot, who managed to get Lilith to back down and retreat. The feelings of Lilith's negative emotions, however, would linger at the back of Alma's mind.
With California Base secured for the moment, Noisy Fairy's attention would be turned towards interfering with the Federation's efforts towards Operation Odessa, or at least in Killy's case preparing for the worst should it fall. During a mission to stop a Federation supply line Noisy Fairy pushed through heavy artillery fire from a Big Tray-class battle ship and Federation mobile suits, only for the mission to take turn for the worse by the arrival of reinforcements consisting of the Federation's new RGM-79 GM armed with beam weaponry. The GM squads would successfully disable Mia's MS-06JK Zaku Half Cannon and though Alma and Helena were successful in repelling the GMs, their beam weaponry had effectively destroyed Mia's mobile suit. The battle would also prove that Alma's MS-06G Zaku II High Mobility Ground Type and Helena's MS-06L Zaku II Sniper Type were both in need of an overhaul. The loss of Mia's mobile suit aside, Noisy Fairy's success had been recognized by their superiors and Killy had returned from California Base with two new mobile suits, a YMS-09D Dom Tropical Test Type and an MS-08TX Efreet. With her mobile suit destroyed, Mia would assume the Dom as her personal unit and began researching ways to increase its firepower. With the help of Alma and Helena, Mia would find what she was looking for in the main cannon of a wrecked YMT-05 Hildolfr, abandoned half a decade prior.
Alma's mind continued to linger on her encounter with Lilith, but with Noisy Fairy's next objective determined the team delved deep into the desert to find the remains of the Hildolfr. Fighting through long inaccurate terrain maps caused by shifting sand dunes, Federation patrols, and the needle in a haystack nature of finding a mobile suit abandoned five years prior in a desert environment Noisy Fairy would eventually succeed in finding the Hildolfr, leaving the only task of loading it onto the squad's Fat Uncle class transport, the Sylph. During the process, the team was attacked by Federation forces lead by Lilith piloting an early production RX-78XX Gundam Pixy. Initially mistaking it for the Federation's "White Devil", Alma and Helena were forced to contend with Federation forces converging on their position alone while Mia salvaged the Hildolfr. As the battle progressed, Lilith's rage continuously grew at the fact despite her new machine Alma was keeping up with her in an inferior mobile suit. Eventually the vicious fighting would finally push Alma's Zaku beyond its limits and its leg gave out. Using the opening Lilith severed the Zaku's arm and sliced the cockpit open. Defeated, Alma faced the reality of her impending death, only for Lilith to stop her attack upon seeing someone she considered a child in the Zaku's cockpit. Helena's intervention allowed Alma to escape and Barry informed Lilith that hunting them down just became their new mission. While able to escape, the strain of the battle caused Alma to pass out on the Sylph and she slipped into a coma. While incapacitated the war would turn for the worse when Operation Odessa ended in a Federation victory. Having grown suspicious of Alma's origins and connection to Killy, Barbara Hahari learned of Alma's time at the Flanagan Institute and reported it to her superiors outside of Noisy Fairy.
With Alma incapacitated and the war rapidly turning on Zeon, morale amongst Noisy Fairy was at an all time low. Mia and the the engineering team struggled to find a way to allow her Dom to carry the Hildolfr's cannon without compromising its integrity while Helena had been training non-stop to the point of exhaustion. The goal of both of them being to never let something like the events of the salvage mission to ever happen again. Helena soon found herself tasked with providing sniper support for fleeing Zeon forces. With the success of Operation Odessa the Federation was viciously hunting down fleeing Zeon troops attempting to flee through Seattle to California Base. While initially successful, Helena quickly found herself surrounded by Federation forces, only to be saved by Ian Graden and his MS-06K Zaku Cannon, a Zeon ace from California Base who quickly and aggressively defeated the Federation GMs with a combination with a flurry of ranged and melee attacks. Initially stunned to see an artillery oriented mobile so fight so closely and aggressively, Helena was encouraged by Graden to not let her weaponry limit her thinking in combat and that even with a long ranged mobile suit she could always do more with it. While assisting Braden's squad, he eventually succeeded in goading Helena into joining them up front to finish the mission. Having received the order to retreat following mission success Helena spotted a Zeon pilot desperately trying to crawl away from an advancing GM and defied her orders to protect them, throwing her sniper rifle at the GM once she realized she was out of ammo and incapacitating the enemy MS in melee combat. Back at Tír na nÓg Killy picked up on Helena wishing to ask something during her reprimanding, to which Helena formally requested to be given the Efreet from California Base, a request that Killy assured her she'd consider. At the same time Irmela burst into the room with news that they'd recovered an intact Gallop-class, just the thing Mia needed to support the Hildolfr's cannon.
In the following days the good news continued to pile on; Alma had awoken, catching everyone by surprise by walking into the main hall. Despite her awakening Alma had not been cleared to return to duty, forcing Helena and Mia to operate together without her during an attempted smash-and-grab from a Federation supply depot that ended with them being cut off from communications and fighting off a large Federation force. Despite budding ideas for Helena's Efreet and the squad on the verge of reuniting, the war continued to turn against Zeon. Despite the fact that the Federation's White Devil had defeated multiple Zeon aces, Killy's concern for Char Aznable's ever-growing obsession with it and the Trojan Horse only grew. There was, however, good news in the form of Kycilia Zabi's approving an HLV drop to California Base, containing a new mobile suit for Alma. The unit, however, was knocked off course and landing near Augusta, causing immediate concern for Alma's well-being after the events of Noisy Fairy's previous recovery mission. While she assured them she would be okay, but expressed concern over her continued position as Fairy Leader. With Helena's MS-08TX [NF] Efreet Jäger complete, the team was ready.
With orders to either recover or destroy the HLV Noisy Fairy deployed, expressing curiosity over the nature of the suit within with even Mia only knowing that it was part of the United Maintenance Plan. As they fought through Federation forces in the area Mia mentioned that while repairing Alma's Zaku she'd noticed that Alma was inputting commands too fast for the mobile suit to keep up with. Initially clearing the Federation forces around the HLV, Noisy Fairy was forced to hide by the sudden arrival of an RX-80WR White Rider. Refusing to give the machine a chance to destroy her new mobile suit Alma leap out of their hiding place and attacked, only to be ambushed by an RX-80BR Black Rider. Their hands forced, Noisy Fairy engaged the two experimental mobile suits. As the fighting continued Alma's desperation to protect her new mobile suite caused her frustration to finally reach a breaking point, angrily shouting at her Zaku for being unable to keep up with her and determined to not rely on Helena and Mia, letting slip her growing insecurities about her place in the team. The Black Rider's optical camouflage soon dropped and it activated the HADES, but the pair quickly reached their operational limits and were forced to retreat. Opening the HLV the team was taken aback by what they saw.
While they had received a top-secret, top of the line mobile suit, the unit within was naught but a naked frame. Worse still, Irmela determined that with the machine's emphasis on power and speed over armor it was unlikely Alma would survive long piloting it even if the team immediately finished assembling it. Her insecurities and desperation getting the better of her Alma begged Killy to still allow her to pilot the new suit, earning herself an angry reprimanding from her commanding officer. Deciding on the unit's name as "Titania", Killy assured a devastated Alma that they'd figure something out. The truth was that Alma's insecurities stemmed from her previous fight with Lilith, having relived the fight multiple times during her coma and perishing each time. Terrified she could not protect the others from her again, Alma realized her fear did not make her suitable to lead her squad and confessed her recent doubts about herself to Killy, who reluctantly agreed to make Mia Fairy Leader while Alma was made Fairy 2 in her place. Meanwhile Mia's MS-09 [NF] Dom Gnomides had been completed and was ready for its first mission.
The Dom Gnomides would see its inaugural mission as an interception of Federation forces trying to link with the main North American force. Though successful, the mission would put the Gnomides' cannon to the test against a Federation land battleship. Forcing the ship to retreat together, Alma finally came to grips with the idea that she cannot simply do everything alone. Irmela had good news of her own, telling Alma that the MS-18NF Titania was complete. With the entire squad outfitted with new machines, they would soon find themselves in need of the power the new suits provided,
In late November or early December, Gihren Zabi aligned forces leaked the location of Noisy Fairy's base to Federation forces in an attempt to distract them from California base and create martyrs of the team while depriving Kycilia Zabi's faction of an important asset. As the possibility of discovery was accounted for beforehand, Noisy Fairy was able to escape the assault with no loss of life and destroy all intelligence with the intentional explosion of Tír na nÓg. It would then participate in the evacuation of California Base.
Noisy Fairy would be critical to Zeon's final stand on Earth, protecting retreating forces and inflicting the last Federation casualties of the Earth theatre. Barbara Hahari believed these actions would improve Zeon's ability to negotiate favorable terms for its surrender.
