The Musai-class Final Production Type is a fictional space cruiser class introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket.

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

The Musai-class Final Production Type was a variation of the Musai-class cruiser produced near the end of the One Year War. The design was noticeably much sleeker, with the engine pods and much of the main hull taking on a sharp triangular shape with sharper angles and sharp fins on the engines, main body, and the bridge. The large vents on either side of the bridge were much larger, and the bay doors to the mobile suit hangar aft of the bridge was larger, able to store more mobile suits in a purpose built hangar rather than a converted cargo bay like in the original Musai-class.

Compared to previous versions, its cruise distance, rate of acceleration, and mobility were improved, with two large thrusters in each engine pod alongside an additional three engines on the main body.[1] Its mega particle cannon turrets were reduced to only two, similar to the later classes of the classic Musai-class, though they had a considerably stronger output than its predecessors.[2] The Musai-class Final Production Type lacked missile launchers, likely to reduce the need to carry missiles for more storage space or to reduce the mass of the vessel. It also abolished the atmospheric entry capsule Komusai, allowing for much more internal space in the main body for crew quarters and supply storage.[3]

Armaments[]

  • Twin Mega Particle Gun
The main armament of the Musai-class Final Production Type are a pair of 2-barrel beam turrets mounted on the main body. These beam cannons have at least a 180-degree pivot, and are capable of destroying enemy warships and mobile suits. While one less than the standard Musai-class, they had slightly more output per gun.

History[]

The Musai-class Final Production Type entered service far too late in the One Year War to make a difference, with a very small number of these ships being constructed before the war's end. Two such ships, the Siegfried and the Valkyrie, would serve as escort ships for the Tivvay-class Graf Zeppelin. On December 15th, U.C. 0079, the three ships launched mobile suits at the Side 6 "Ribo" colony, which engaged in combat with Federation mobile suits protecting the colony, allowing the Cyclops Team to enter the colony in a civilian shuttle as part of Operation Rubicon.

After the failure of Operation Rubicon. The Graf Zeppelin was ordered by Colonel Killing to destroy the Ribo colony with a nuclear missile. However, the three ships were intercepted by Federation forces en route to the colony, and presumably either surrendered or were destroyed.

Notes & Trivia[]

GG Komusai Final Production

The Komusai S from Gihren's Greed: Blood of Zeon

  • There were conflicting accounts as to whether the Musai-class Final Production Type has a Komusai, since it was never seen using one in 0080. The B-Club War in the Pocket Visual Comic Vol. 1, released in 1989, stated that it did have one, while the 2001 Gundam Officials and the 2013 Gundam Perfect File stated that it did not. The non-canon Gihren's Greed series gave it a Komusai with an original design.
    • In the Gihren's Greed series, the Musai Final Production Type was referred to as "Musai S" from Blood of Zeon onward, and its Komusai was named "Komusai S".
