Morgenröte Facility

The Morgenröte Facility is a research and manufacturing facility located at the Orb Union space colony Heliopolis. It first appeared in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

Overview[]

Due to the Orb Union possessing fewer natural resources compared to other larger nations, the Heliopolis colony was established to mine resources from asteroids. Morgenröte established a facility within the colony to make use of the resources to further technological advancement.

History[]

On July 12, C.E. 70, a secret agreement was made between members of the Orb Union and the Atlantic Federation to provide assistance through Morgenröte in the development of the Earth Alliance’s G Project, a program aimed at developing advanced mobile suits.^[1] Once the project was relocated to the Heliopolis facility, research and development sped up considerably, with the development of several new weapons systems culminating in the construction of five mobile suits and a new type of assault battleship, the Archangel-class.

On January, 25. C.E. 71, the mobile suits, and the Archangel were in the final stages of completion. However, information regarding their development had leaked through inside sources, alerting ZAFT Commander Rau Le Creuset, who launched an attack on Heliopolis, intending to capture the mobile suits and destroy the new warship.^[2] The Morgenröte facility was considerably damaged in the attack, although most of its personnel were able to evacuate into shelters.^[2]^[3] Following the initial attack, the Archangel was able to land near the facility, where its remaining crew, anticipating further conflict, salvaged any resources that they could and moved them to the ship. The facility was destroyed when Heliopolis’ support structures was demolish during the latter phase of the battle and the colony broke apart.^[4]
