Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory CD Cinema - Battle of Lunga Point is an audio drama sidestory for Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory, chronologically set between Episode 7 and Episode 8.

Plot[]

Prologue[]

The audio drama opens with a prologue explaining the series of events that led to the main story of Stardust Memory: During the Battle of A Baoa Qu. Aiguille Delaz learns of the death of Gihren Zabi and orders his fleet to retreat from A Baoa Qu. Not long after, on January 1, U.C. 0080, the Earth Federation government signed an armistice with the Republic of Zeon.

Two weeks later, Zeon fleets which escaped from A Baoa Qu gathered at Karama Point. Various Zeon officers argued over what they should do, with some believing that they should join Maharaja Karn at Axis in order to rise again in the future. During the argument, Cima Garahau's fleet broke formation and left. The others cared little about this, calling them a disgrace to Zeon. Cima simply remarked that there was nothing in a remote place like Axis, and that the real prize was in the Earth sphere.

Most of the escaped Zeon fleets ended up heading for Axis, and those who decided to remain in the Earth sphere joined Delaz. Delaz ordered all of his mobile suit pilots under Lieutenant Anavel Gato to go into hiding in the lunar cities and Side 6 while the rest of his forces constructed their new base of operations in the shoal zone. In August, U.C. 0081, Delaz's group completed reorganization and began guerilla activities under the name Delaz Fleet.

On September 17, U.C. 0081, Gato (now promoted to Lieutenant Commander) reported his return to Delaz on the Gwaden, Delaz's flagship docked in the Garden of Thorns. However, Delaz told him to continue waiting for just a few days longer.

On August 11, U.C. 0083, Gato asked Delaz when would they leave Garden of Thorns, and if he was necessary here if they were staying in hiding. In response, Delaz handed him the plans for Operation Stardust. Looking at the plans, Gato was shocked to learn of the Gundam Development Project. At this point, an officer relayed a long-awaited communication from Axis: Haman Karn has become the regent for Mineva Lao Zabi and made plans to support the Delaz Fleet. Gato, overwhelmed with emotions, remarked that they have awaited this moment for three years.

On October 14, in Australia, Kou Uraki's RX-78GP01 Gundam "Zephyranthes" clashed sabers with Gato's stolen RX-78GP02A Gundam "Physalis". Kou demanded to know why he was stealing Unit 2, and Gato simply replied that explaining it to someone who did not know their reason to fight was useless.

Main story[]

Nina Purpleton serves as the narrator for this part of the story: On November 5, U.C. 0083, the assault landing ship Albion had left Von Braun and was heading for the Solomon Sea.

At the Albion's mobile suit deck, Nina greeted Mora Boscht as Chuck Keith's RGC-83 GM Cannon II prepared to launch from the catapult. Mora mentioned that Kou's Full Burnern was already waiting in space for the test and Nina remarked that the test yesterday failed not because of something wrong with the Full Burnern itself.

In space, Peter Scott informed Kou that the test would begin early, then instructed him to begin firing test at an asteroid at 2'o clock. Kou acknoledged the order and began boosting at the asteroid. The subject of the test was the Blash XBR-L-83d, a prototype beam rifle made at Von Braun. With a generator output of 4.8 megawatt, the prototype was much more powerful than the BOWA M-82A beam rifle usually used by the Full Burnern.

However, the beam rifle ended up missing the target: same as what happened on the day before. Frustrated, Kou asks to try the test again. Just then, the Albion's beam cannons fired and hit the asteroid, destroying it in one shot. When questioned by Captain Eyphar Sinapus, the Albion's gunnery chief, Aristide Hughes, insisted that it was a misfire.

After Kou returned to the ship, Nina told him that since the prototype beam rifle's poor accuracy was due to it not being designed for the Full Burnern. Mora Boscht suggested fitting it with an NN28 stabilizer from one of the ship's beam cannons. Nina spoke with Captain Sinapus to ask to borrow the stabilizer, saying that a replacement would be available when the Albion was resupplied three days later. However, Sinapus simply directed her to speak with Hughes directly.

Nina and Kou arrived at the gunnery office, Hughes revealed that he had absolutely no respect for Sinapus and strongly disliked mobile suits for stealing the thunder of warships. He recounted his experience during the One Year War:

At the start of the war, Hughes was responsible for the maintenance of a Hood Type V mega particle cannon on a Magellan-class battleship and took great pride in his work. However, during the Battle of Loum, an MS-06C Zaku II - the first mobile suit he ever saw - launched a sneak attack on his fleet and destroyed his ship. Cursing the mobile suit and battling oxygen deprivation, he managed to survive and was eventually reassigned to another Magellan-class, which he maintained an even more advanced Hood Type VIII. However, during the Battle of A Baoa Qu, his ship was stationed at the rear and saw no action as the war came to an end.

Unable to convince Hughes, Nina and Kou left and went to the canteen. Nina asked if they could ask Lt. Bait to talk with Hughes after he returned from patrol, to which Kou replied that it would only turn into a brawl with the entire gunnery office. Suddenly, an alarm sounded. The Albion had encountered a small Delaz Fleet unit based aboard a Chivvay-class at Lunga Point.

The Chivvay-class fired at the Albion's mobile suit deck, preventing the Full Burnern from deploying or accessing its weapons. Meanwhile, the rest of its mobile suit team was out on patrol. Fortunately, with the help of Mora and the Albion mechanics team, the Full Burnern managed to deploy from the landing deck and destroyed a MS-21C Dra-C. However, the Chivvay continued to fire at the Albion.

Just as the situation seemed desperate, Mora launched the L-83d at the Full Burnern from the Core Fighter deck, which was now equipped with the NN28 stabilizer thanks to Nina convincing Hughes. Armed with the L-83d, the Full Burnern evaded the Chivvay's anti-air fire and landed a direct hit on its ammunition storage, causing it to be engulfed in flames. However, the Chivvay was still not destroyed. After launching its escape pods, the ship launched a suicide charge at the Albion. At close range, Hughes fired the starboard Hood Type XII mega particle cannons at the Chivvay, completely destroying it and saving the Albion.
