Mobile Suit Gundam: The Revival of Zeon (Kidou Senshi Gundam: Zeon no Saiko, 機動戦士ガンダム・ジオンの再興) is a manga written and illustrated by Kazuhisa Kondo and published by Kadokawa Shoten 1988. It takes place in UC 0092[1], between Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ and Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack.[2]

Story[]

Set in Universal Century 0092, the Earth Federation has a tactical advantage over Neo Zeon forces stationed on Earth. Despite this, a few Earth-based units have decided to make their way back to space while some would stay behind and conduct guerrilla warfare against them.

The story describes the operations of the 511th Autonomous Mobile Suit Brigade in Western Europe, under Lieutenant Frederick F. Brown, as they retreat from Scandinavia, link up with other Zeon forces in Western Europe, take the town of Verboten, and eventually retreat from Earth in anticipation of the Fifth Luna drop.

EPISODE I OPERATION "AFTER CLIP"[]

A group of Federation G-class battleships including the Glissade and CVS-18 Glorious launch mobile suits from orbit to a snowbound Zeon base at the point "11-R-5". Advance Squadron JG54 launches in several A/FMSZ-007II Zeta mobile suits, and reenters Earth's atmosphere. They fly in at low altitude, from at least 500km out, approaching the Zeon base. The Zeon base consists of several large partially-buried cylindrical buildings surrounded by a trench network. Soldiers and multiple mobile suits prepare to defend against the Feddies, and shoot down one mobile suit, piloted by Stark. After breaking through the Zeon lines and forcing them into retreat, the Federation forces bomb the cylindrical buildings, a power plant. The first of the G-Class battleships descends.

EPISODE II OPERATION "WITHDRAWAL"[]

After destroying the Zeon supply base in Scandinavia, the G-class ships disperse to various docks for refueling and resupply. The Gneisenau docks at Belfast. The Gneisenau takes on supplies. Its crew service a ZZ and some Re-GZs. An officer informs an unnamed Lieutenant that Captain Bright is looking for him. The Garuda-class Brabazon takes off from the base.

At a Zeon base, transport aircraft under command of Lieutenant Brown deliver two Goblin Trops, one Dom Plus, and one PMX-003 The-O II. Ensign Bric briefs Lt. Brown: They recently lost 20 kilometers, but maintained the line by diverting the 6th Army to reinforce. The loss of the Zeon commander at Side 3 (Haman Karn[4]) has resulted in a loss of supply shipments. Lt. Brown says, "That's what happens when there's no High Command." He says that there may be a new leader, the Red Comet, and that the higher-ups have a plan and are withdrawing from Earth. To support that plan, Brown says that he needs Ensign Bric to hold the Feddies' attention.

The Federation forces advance on the lines, in a combined air and ground offensive, including a unit of A/FMSZ-007II Zeta launched from the Brabazon. The Federation ground forces of GM Types, Mk-II types, and other mobile suits are countered by a Zeon force including the MS-109A Goblin and RMS-108 Marasai, who are in turn countered by air-dropped Federation MS. The-O counters the air-dropped forces, which rallies the Zeonic forces. The Federation A/FMSZ-007II Zeta unit attacks from behind the Zeon lines, accompanied by the SSMS-010 ZZ Gundam, and the The-O moves to reinforce the Zeonic rear.

EPISODE III OPERATION "ESCAPE"[]

A Gaw launches a team of ORX-005EX (VPKW-005) Sturm Jaeger interceptors, led by Ensign Meyer, the "Witch of Sirius". Lt. Brown's 511th Autonomous Mobile Suit Brigade has become encircled by Federation forces, and he plans a breakthrough with the assistance of the main Zeonic forces. The breakthrough attempt succeeds with the assistance of Meyer's group, and Brown's group moves to assist the Zeon flagship Gaia. A Federation bombing run damages the Gaia's engines, leaving it unable to take off. Lt. Brown in The-O faces off against the ZZ. The Brewster Team lands their Gaw to rescue the crew of the Gaia, and retrieves them while the The-O holds off the ZZ. Lt. Brown insists on staying behind when the Gaw takes off. When the ZZ fires its High Mega Cannon on the Gaw, Lt. Brown blocks the attack, disabling his The-O. He exits the mobile suit to see himself surrounded by Federation forces, but is rescued by Ensign Meyer in a flyby.

EPISODE IV OPERATION "BREAK THROUGH"[]

This chapter occurs before the events of Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack, opening with an establishing shot of Sweetwater and a Zeon officer ordering the installation of nuclear pulse engines on Fifth Luna. Char Aznable is briefed on progress in reunifying Zeon forces in Western Europe, with the goal of returning the Zeon soldiers to space before the asteroid drop. Char orders the use of "whatever new weapons you need" to make sure the mission is a success.

On Earth, a Federation FXA-07GB Neo Core Fighter flies reconnaissance over a forest, looking for a reported Neo Zeon force. They find nothing, and pull out. The Zeon soldiers and mobile suits were hiding under the treeline, including a camouflaged MSN-04B Sazabi Heavy Equipment Ground Type. Lieutenant Kurtz is ordered to the operations command room, where several Zeon officers plan an attack on a federation supply line in the town of Verboten, under cover of foggy weather the next day.

In space, CVN-77 prepares the PX-00531 ν Gundam Pre-Test Type for launch.

Lt. Kurtz leads the fog-drenched operation. A Federation GM patrol that doubts the presence of Zeons in the area stumbles across the Zeon mobile suit column. The GMs are defeated, and the Zeon group breaks through the tree line into a Federation staging area.

CVN-77 launches a shuttle, which reenters Earth's atmosphere.

While the Zeon mobile suit column engages the Federation 9th Mobile Suit Division, Zeonic engineers were airdropped in the Federation rear to spread misinformation. The Federation forces fall, and Lt. Kurtz advances to within 40km of Verboten.

The shuttle, bound for Verboten, cannot raise Verboten on the radio. The airwaves are full of tactical chatter from a firefight. The shuttle turns towards Verboten, which is covered with thick palls of smoke. An unnamed federation lieutenant launches the Gundam from the shuttle, and blocks the Zeon column from advancing closer to the Verboten base. The Gundam pilot is positioned to destroy the Sazabi, but it overheats and locks up, allowing the Sazabi to destroy it. The Zeon forces take Verboten despite heavy losses, pushing the Federation front line back 50km. For this leadership, and the destruction of the Gundam, Lt. Kurtz is awarded the Zeon Cross.

EPISODE V OPERATION "RETURN OF THE COSMOS"[]

The Zeon forces at Verboten gain access to space, and begin their retreat from Earth, with the 511th Autonomous Mobile Suit Brigade under Lt. Brown providing the rear guard for the final launch operation. The Federation dispatches the four G-class ships, and two arrive at the lanch site, with 30 minues left until launch. Lt. Brown orders all other units to abandon their mobile suits and board the shuttle, leaving him: "I didn't come here to lose."

With his PMX-005 Breda Lt. Brown destroys several of the inbound wave of A/FMSZ-007II Zeta, before three SSMS-010 ZZ Gundam appear. Lt. Brown is joined by Lt. Kurtz and Ensign Meyer, piloting a large mobile armor. The mobile armor severely damages the Federation forces. The Zeon shuttles launch, and a Zanzibar II-class[5] arrives to pick up Lt. Brown and the mobile armor. The Zanziar escapes to orbit after firing R-8 anti-ship missiles at three G-class ships, destroying one.
