Mobile Suit Gundam: Silver Phantom (機動戦士ガンダム:銀灰の幻影 Kidō senshi Gandamu: Ginhai no Gen'ei?) is an interactive virtual reality film co-produced by Bandai Namco Filmworks and French VR production company Atlas V.[1] It was released on October 4th, 2024 through the Meta Store.

Synopsis[]

U.C. 0096—.
Argent Keil, an unofficial mercenary organization affiliated with neither the Federation nor Zeon, has been commissioned to assassinate Azami Meggineh, a high-ranking Federation official. The request comes from the Federation Forces, who cannot allow the reality of Azami's collusion with Zeon to be made public, but just before they were to set out, their fleet was attacked by none other than a Federation Forces' Jegan unit. In the midst of this extremely chaotic situation, a silver Gundam secretly owned by Argent Keil is launched into space.[2]

Plot[]

3 years after the events of Char's Counterattack, ex-Federation official Azami Meggineh and her colleague Joff Idly arrive on a Neo Zeon cruiser, where they are hailed by their new allies. A Neo Zeon soldier offers them both Zeon uniforms to match their new allegiance, but Joff declines, declaring that changing an outfit cannot change a person's nature.

At the Landfill, a remote section of space orbiting the Earth Sphere, mercenary unit Argent Keil is ambushed by a surprise attack from a unit of Federation Jegans. The protagonist is called by senior pilot Mabel Lena to sortie alongside Mabel's adoptive daughter Babia and defend Argent Keil. Rendevouzing with Babia, the protagonist learns that they are to pilot a Gundam-class Mobile Suit, the Delta Zayin, which was meant to be piloted by former associate Fixzi Fix before hit premature death. Babia and the protagonist join Mabel in space combat; despite initial growing pains, the protagonist manages to take control of the Delta Zayin and the trio successfully fend off the Federation suits. Despite the damage, Mabel commands the protagonist and Babia to continue with the assassination order on Azami while she stays behind to relocate Argent Keil.

En route to Azami's given coordinates, Babia joins the protagonist in the Delta Zayin and chats with them about Fixzi. The protagonist has a flashback about Fixzi's past, learning that he was a Cyber-Newtype who met Babia on Earth and helped her defeat a pursuing Federation Mobile Suit before being invited to join Argent Keil. The conversation turns to the events of 3 years ago, when Amuro Ray stopped the fall of Axis; the protagonist was part of the Earth Federation unit that attempted to help Amuro slow the fall of the space base, but due to overexertion, their GM III self-destructed and they were ejected into space, where they witnessed the Axis Shock. The protagonist experiences another vision of Fixzi, learning that he and Babia were deployed at the same time, causing Fixzi's death at the hands of Neo Zeon forces when his Newtype powers overwhelmed him. The protagonist tries to explain the nature of Fixzi's abilities to Babia, but Babia is offended by the protagonist's remarks and storms off. Mabel contacts the protagonist and reminds them that the Delta Zayin's shield contains a custom psycho-frame enhanncement originally meant for Fixzi.

Circling around the deserted ruins of A Baoa Qu, the protagonist and Babia arrive at the destination, only to find themselves caught in an ambush lead by Joff. Azami patches into their communications and reveals that she is the one who sent the assassination order on herself, intending to draw out the reclusive Argent Keil after Fixzi defeated her 11 years ago and ended her career as a pilot. Overwhelmed by sheer numbers, the protagonist is caught by Joff, who reveals that he was the one who killed Fixzi. On the verge of death, the protagonist suddenly hears Fixzi's voice in their head warning them of their enemies' actions. This causes the protagonist to awaken to their Newtype potential, activating the psycho-frame in the Delta Zayin's shield. Using Fixzi's guidance alongside their newfound power of prediction, the protagonist proceeds to decimate the Neo Zeon squad before killing Joff and Azami.

Before the protagonist has a chance to rest, they are suddenly attacked by Babia, enraged that the protagonist developed Newtype abilities and she did not. As Babia continues her assault on the protagonist, the protagonist suddenly senses danger; Fixzi warns them that another battle is occurring on the other side of Earth and that they are in danger of being killed by the Gryps 2 colony laser. Fixzi tells the protagonist that they will have a difficult choice to make.

Depending on the player's final action, one of three endings may occur.

  • If the player raises the Delta Zayin's shield, the protagonist will block Babia's final attack. Commanding their shield to escort Babia to safety, Babia is sent flying as the Delta Zayin is vaporized by the colony laser. In the aftermath, the protagonist's soul joins Fixzi as they fly towards Earth, with the narrator commending the player for abiding to their humanity.
  • If the player raises the Delta Zayin's rifle, the protagonist will shoot Babia and escape, causing Babia to be vaporized by the laser. The narration states that the protagonist continued on as the ace pilot of Argent Keil, forever fighting from the shadows.
  • If the player does nothing, the protagonist will escape, never to be seen again. The scene cuts to a beach resort on Earth, where Babia is seen watching a news broadcast.
