Messiah (メサイア Mesaia?) is a mobile space fortress introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny.
Overview[]
A mobile fortress built by ZAFT after the Second Battle of Jachin Due. It was built by incorporating equipment into the wreckage of an asteroid after mining resources, and is cheaper to build than a battleship. Positron reflectors that can be deployed in all directions of the fortress are placed, and it is equipped with Neo-GENESIS, a smaller variant of the massive GENESIS superweapon used in the First Alliance-PLANT War. Inside, there is a vast computer room where the genetic information of the humans gathered in the Destiny Plan is analyzed and managed. In addition, the asteroid was outfitted with multiple beam gun turrets to shoot down incoming enemy units and also protected by a large fleet of warships and mobile suits. Messiah also served as the new control center for the Earth Alliance's Requiem superweapon following its capture after the Battle of Daedalus.
History[]
Near the end of the Second Alliance-PLANT War, Gilbert Durandal headed to Messiah after he left Earth and from there commanded the attacks on the Earth Alliance's Daedalus Lunar Base and the Requiem superweapon. Afterwards, the fortress headed to the moon where it engaged the forces of the Three Ships Alliance.[1] Using its Neo-GENESIS weapon, Messiah was able to destroy several ships which had defected from the Earth Alliance. While the superweapon began to charge, a large space battle broke out around it. Neo-GENESIS was then fired again, with it not only destroying several enemy ships but also some ZAFT ships. Kira Yamato in the ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom Gundam equipped with METEOR, along with the Eternal, proceed to inflict heavy damage on the fortress. Kira then entered the fortress and confronted Durandal, who was eventually shot by Rey Za Burrel. Both Rey and Minerva captain Talia Gladys decided to stay on Messiah as the fortress descended onto the surface of the moon, before crashing onto the lunar surface.[2]
In 75 CE, during the final battle of the Foundation Conflict, the crash site of Messiah became a battleground as Orphee Lam Tao and Shura Serpentine relentlessly pursued Kira Yamato. Three AMO-01 Ziggurats were positioned behind Messiah, controlled by Ingrid Tradoll, who remotely controlled them from the NOG-M2D1/E Cal-re.A, firing endless barrages of beams and missiles at the Freedom. When Lacus Clyne, docked the MDE262S Proud Defender with the ZGMF/A-262B Strike Freedom Gundam Type II, creating the ZGMF/A-262PD-P Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam, they used the Gundam's Disruptor to target the three Ziggurats, carving the upper section of Messiah fortress in a diagonal slash.
