Personality & Character[]

A crafty and clever war merchant, he is known to be shy of the media.

Notes & Trivia[]

In the original proposal document, Tomino described Carbine as Jewish and controlling AEUG in order to force humans into space "in order to reclaim the holy land of Israel for the Jewish people". Tomino described this relationship to AEUG and its mission as "very similar to the way the Jewish people control Hollywood". The document insisted these details not be addressed in the series, and none of this information is present in Zeta. [1]

This claim is originally sourced to Zeonic Scanlations' article "PROJECT PROTOTYPE: Zeta Gundam Proposal (July 1984)", a translation of an edited version of the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam proposal document, which was published in the March 1986 edition of Animedia magazine, a magazine which is not available online. Zeonic's "MAKING OF Z GUNDAM" says the full memo is reproduced, among other notes, in the laserdisc MOBILE SUIT Z GUNDAM Memorial Box released in 1994, which is not available in English. The original Japanese liner notes have been scanned and posted to the Internet Archive. The section on Melanie Hugh Carbine, on page 9, reads as follows:
