Max Burns (マックス・バーンズ?) is a character that appears in Mobile Fighter G Gundam as a member of the Shuffle Alliance and pilots the Shuffle Spade. He also appears in the manga Mobile Fighter G Gundam: 7th Fight as the pilot of the GF7-023NA Gundam Freedom for Neo America.
History[]
Shortly after the 13th Gundam Fight representatives for Neo America, Neo China, Neo France, and Neo Russia were corrupted by DG cells of the JDG-00X Devil Gundam and attacked current wielder of the King of Hearts crest in Neo Japan's Domon Kasshu alongside Master Asia and his GF13-001NHII Master Gundam, Max, along with the rest of Master Asia's fellow Shuffle Alliance members under Tris Sergeyrev's leadership, arrived to protect Domon and confront their leader for abandoning them, betraying their ideologies, and siding with the Devil Gundam, declaring that his betrayal must be paid for with his life. After explaining himself to them, Master Asia withdrew, taking the infected Gundam fighters with him, but only after a plea from Domon convinces Master Asia to avoid bloodshed with his former allies and agree to leave for the moment, but also declare his relationship with Domon as master and student dissolved, vowing to destroy Domon and the Alliance next time they meet. When Domon tried to follow, Max and the others restrained him, reminding him that Master Asia just broke ties with him and is no longer his master.
Later, when Domon is told by a JDG-009X Death Army mobile suit that he is to meet with Master Asia at the Tokyo Tower, alone, Tris, Max, and the others suspect a trap. They are right when Domon is confronted by Master Asia and the infected fighters, but luckily, Max and the other Shuffle Alliance members show up and face off with the infected fighters, with Max confronting Neo America's Chibodee Crocket. After fighting them hand-to-hand, and then in their Gundams, Max, Tris, and the others realize that Chibodee and the other infected fighters are their successors to be Domon's Shuffle Alliance allies. After some difficult council on what to do, the Shuffle Alliance launch a suicidal dive attack on the infected fighters, knocking them out cold, before then sacrificing their lives and those of their Shuffle Alliance Gundams to purge the infected fighters of their DG cells and render them immune to future infections. Chibodee is cured of his DG cells and given Max's crest as the Queen the Spades (Queen Of Spades in the English dub), reacting in shock upon seeing it for the first time after coming to from being returned to normal. However, learning of what happened, Chibodee is traumatized by what he must have done under the Devil Gundam's influence and turns to alcohol to drown his sorrows before being snapped out of it and offering to aid Domon against the Devil Gundam if he beats him in the finals of the Gundam Fight.
Max is seen one more time following Domon's victory over Master Asia, appearing with the rest of the Shuffle Alliance to apologize to Master Asia over not realizing the truth that Master Asia felt so heartbroken and devastated by the damage to Earth from the Gundam Fights that he felt unworthy of his position as their leader and King of Hearts, realizing they too bear some of the burden for not seeing it themselves and have to trust that Domon and his Shuffle Alliance allies can help atone for their mistakes.
