The Manzana Flor (林檎の花(マンサーナ・フロール) Ringo no Hana (Mansāna Furōru)?) is a ship which appears in the manga series Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam: Ghost.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The Manzana Flor is an experimental Minovsky Drive-propelled interplanetary ship developed by the Jupiter Republic's Jupiter Foundation. Because they were virtually starting from scratch, the ship's construction took ten years, and was only possible with tremendous assistance from the research & development staff hired on from SNRI who worked on the original Minovsky Drives. Because of their contributions, the new ship comes to greatly resemble the bow of the Mother Vanguard. The Minovsky Drive is critical for the Jupiter Republic to be able to travel swiftly between the Earth Sphere and Jupiter in case of a crisis. The Manzana Flor has no appreciable weaponry, aside any armaments that would be used to intercept debris while traveling through space. Because Mobile Suits are used for so many tasks in the Jupiter Sphere, the hangar is very large to accommodate several. The Manzana Flor is also capable of operating within the Earth's atmosphere, but it must land vertically, with the bow pointing upwards, which makes it resemble a flower bud.
Special Equipment & Features[]
- Minovsky Drive System
- Developed from the Minovsky Craft System, the Minovsky Drive System is a form of propulsion technology that allows an equipped machine to accelerate to extremely high speeds both in space and in the Earth's atmosphere. The speed that can be achieved is so great that an equipped mobile suit can travel from the 600 million kilometers separating the Earth Sphere from the Jupiter Sphere in about 150 hours -when both planets are at their closest position to one another- while traditional ships designed to make such a journey would require a minimum of three months. One of the primary advantages of the Minovsky Drive System is that it does not require burning conventional fuel to operate and instead relies solely on the Minovsky particles produced by the Minovsky fusion reactor. Because the reactor continually produces Minovsky particles the Minovsky Drive System theoretically has no operating limit as long as all components are working properly.
- Beam Shield
- By lowering the masts down, the Minovsky Drive's "Sails of Light" can act as a beam shield, protecting the Manzana Flor.
History[]
In U.C. 0153, the Manzana Flor journeyed to Saturn to rendezvous with the Jupiter Foundation exterior planet exploration vessel Argo Odisea, which had found a derelict Crossbone Vanguard space pirate supply vessel that has gone missing twenty years prior during the wars with the Jupiter Empire. The ghost supply ship was shuttling the third Gundam F97 to the Crossbone Vanguard when it was struck by a meteorite which was contaminated with an unknown extraterrestrial bacterium species. Overjoyed at the news of discovering life in space, Tetenith Dogatie chose to name the specimen "Angel Call". However, further research revealed that the Angel Call organism was extremely lethal to human life, and could kill an individual and liquefy them in minutes, and cures were thought to be impossible due to its alien nature. When he hears about the extreme danger posed by Angel Call, Erin Schneider, captain of the Manzana Flor, destroys the ghost supply ship and escapes from the Argo Odisea on a Papillon interplanetary cruiser with a sample of Angel Call.
The Manzana Flor becomes the mothership of Serpiente Tacon, a special taskforce created by Queen Tetenith to stop Angel Call from being released on Earth. A pirate flag is painted on its hull and the Manzana Flor journeys to Earth and becoming involved in the Zanscare War. Ultimately the Manzana Flor becomes contaminated with Angel Call and it is set on a collision course with the Sun to destroy what bacterium remained.

Notes[]
- "Manzana Flor" is Spanish for "Apple Blossom," so-called because the energy from the ship's "Sails of Light" look like a flower blooming in space.
