Machu's Rebellion is the seventh episode of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX. It was released worldwide on May 21, 2025.

Synopsis[]

Upon learning of Annqi's plan, Machu devises a plan with Nyaan to use the Clan Battle as a means to help Shuji escape. However, their opponent in the next Clan Battle turns out to be a newly built mobile armor operated by terrorists aiming to assassinate Kycilia.

Plot[]

On the cusp of the next Clan Battle, Amate sorties in the GQuuuuuuX and heads for the new target deployment point, despite confusion from the rest of the team regarding the last minute change. As military police begin to canvas the colony on leaked information pertaining to Clan Battle, Kycilia strikes a deal with Side 6's government to cooperate on the Solar Ray, a project aimed at recovering Earth's surface in the wake of the One Year War. Amate arrives at the airlock and hands the GQuuuuuuX to Nyaan, having devised a plan with her to escape Side 6 together with Shuji. Minovsky Particles are dispersed throughout the area as Nyaan and Shuji emerge from the deployment point, cutting off communication across the colony.

Deux and Gates deploy their own suits in time for the Clan Battle, planning to use the Clan Battle as cover to finish the hit on Kycilia. While the Psycho Gundam arises in front of thousands of stunned onlookers, Amate robs Annqi's safe using the combination she discovered the previous night, but Annqi intervenes and demands that Amate return the money. Amate fires a warning shot at Annqi using her pistol before escaping with the cash, cursing her.

The Psycho Gundam attacks the GQuuuuuuX, inflicting heavy damage and causing Nyaan to lose control over the suit, crashing it underneath a bridge before she is saved from a fall by Shuji. Now a fugitive for her illegal courier gig and no longer welcome in Side 6, Nyaan desperately pleads with Shuji to leave Amate behind and escape with her. As she does so, the Kira-Kira suddenly begins to illuminate from the Red Gundam's cockpit, and the Sodon detects a Zeknova phenomenon. Nyaan watches helplessly as Shuji and the Red Gundam are enveloped by the Kira-Kira before suddenly vanishing, leaving no trace of their presence except a small crater.

Deux loses her connection to the Kira-Kira and flies into a rage, attacking indiscriminately and destroying civilian territory. The Psycho Gundam releases its armor, deploying massive Bits that begin to devastate the military police in pursuit. As Amate flees with the cash, she discovers the abandoned GQuuuuuuX in the middle of the road, only for an armed police force to arrive and hold Amate at gunpoint. Amate hastily boards the GQuuuuuuX, dropping the stolen money in the process, and flees from the police. Meanwhile, Deux and Gates arrive at Kycilia's location and prepare to land the final shot, but are interrupted when Xavier and Challia arrive, piloting a Gyan and the Kikeroga respectively. Xavier defends Kycilia while Challia uses the Kikeroga's overwhelming offense to kill both Deux and Gates, putting an end to the Federation's plot.

Amate, realizing that both Shuji and the Red Gundam have gone missing, begins to lose control over her Newtype abilities. Before the GQuuuuuX can go berserk, Challia intervenes and uses his own Newtype ability to neutralize Amate, knocking her out and capturing both her and the GQuuuuuuX. As news spreads across Side 6 regarding Amate's involvement in the terrorist attack, Xavier finds Nyaan and extends an invitation to her to join Zeon, under the assumption that she is the GQuuuuuuX's pilot. Kycilia declares Challia and Xavier's missions completed and sends Challia on his way, affirming that he is not a spy for Gihren. Nyaan, having accepted Xavier's request, is introduced to Kycilia. In private, Challia reveals to Simus that he plans to have both Gihren and Kycilia killed to preserve the peace that Zeon won in the war. In the Sodon, Amate is locked away in the ship's brig, her fate uncertain.

Notes & Trivia[]

News articles about Mahko's arrest and Nyaan's house search[]

Refugee man arrested on suspicion of smuggling, courier also wanted (5:55 mark)
At 7 a.m. today, the military police arrested Mahko Nagawara (45), a self-employed man with no fixed address, on suspicion of smuggling and trading military goods. In recent years, Side 6 has been plagued by a problem of illegal gambling known as "Clan Battle," in which mobile suits fight using illegal installer devices. The military police had been investigating the distribution route of the devices for some time. Nagawara was trading smuggled goods under the guise of a food truck, but after a third party's report and security camera footage, he was arrested.
Arrest warrant issued for illegal part-time "courier" worker - refugee status revoked in sight (5:56 mark)
Regarding the illegal device issue, the military police announced that they had issued an arrest warrant for a wanted refugee girl. It is unusual to issue an arrest warrant for a single member who only performs delivery work. According to a military police's officials, "It's true that couriers are just a low-level workers. Considering the size of the criminal market, an arrest warrant should only be issued for this girl.
Search of wanted courier girl's home puts siege on illegal traders (5:57 mark)
The military police seem serious about wiping out smugglers of illegal devices. The authorities have issued a wanted notice for the courier girl based on information obtained from the recent mass arrests, but have also announced that they will be conducting a search of refugee towns in industrial areas at the same time.

Police officers are selecting evidence, and are taking a tough stance, saying they are not going to let any smugglers get away.

Continuity Notes[]

  • The same agent who checked the Psycho Gundam in Izuma (disguised as an air-conditioning unit at the time) in episode 6 was also among the bystanders shocked by the Gundam revealing itself in the middle of the city.

Callbacks to previous Gundam series[]

  • Machu's being jailed at the end of episode in Sodon's brig, with an empty corridor outside, mirrors that of Amuro's fate at the end of episode 19; the design of the cell door is also similar.
  • Amate's classmates see Machu on the news while eating at "Wonder land", a Side 6 fast food chain introduced in Gundam 0080.
  • Both Psycho Gundams appears over a busy city street in Mobile Fortress mode, before transforming into MS mode to confront the protagonist.
  • "MOBILE SUIT Sen", a remastered version of "MOBILE SUIT" from the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam arrangement soundtrack Mobile Suit Z Gundam SPECIAL, is played during the Psycho Gundam's transformation sequence.

Callbacks to GAINAX/Khara titles[]

  • The scene where the Psycho Gundam shoots its cannon beams all around itself before releasing its armor resembles the Sixth Angel's circular beam shooting in Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone. Also, the Psycho Gundam's armor parts forming a protective ring calls back to the same Angel morphing into a ring of needles to defend itself.
  • Deux grasping in agony on the same body part as where the Psycho Gundam gets hit or severed mirrors similar reactions made by Evangelion pilots when and wherever their units get damaged.
  • When the Psycho Gundam shoots its beams into the air while falling, it resembles Godzilla performing a similar action from its spikes in Shin Godzilla.
  • Amate and Deux's eyes, and those of their respective mechs, glowing red in rage when in desperation, mirror the same reactions by Eva pilots in the same situation, particularly in the Rebuild of Evangelion movies. Particularly in Amate's case when losing Shuji caused her and GQuuuuuuX to almost go berserk before being stopped by Challia's Newtype abilities, which calls back to Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance when Shinji and Eva-01 go berserk to defeat the Tenth Angel and rescue Rei and finally get impaled by a spear thrown by Kaworu's unit.
