The MS-14J/BR Gelgoog Vertex is a mobile suit from MSV-R: The Return of Johnny Ridden.
Technology & Combat Characteristics
The prototype of the Gelgoog Vertex was designed by Rimia Greenwood from the Federation Survey Service and developed by the Anaheim Electronics 2nd R&D Division. It was an improvement over the MS-14BR Gelgoog High Mobility R Type provided by the Chimera Corps, incorporating data from the MS-14J ReGelgu, which Anaheim obtained from Neo Zeon during the Neo Zeon War.[1]
Its armor material was changed to Gundarium Alloy.[1] It was fitted with a pair of large binders on the back, similar to the one used by the ReGelgu, with three verniers on each side. Its backpack featured a pair of propellant tanks and a missile pod.[2]
Armaments
- Beam Rifle
- The Gelgoog Vertex is armed with the custom beam rifle used by the ReGelgu, power rated at 2.18 MW. It is fitted with a grenade launcher under the barrel.
- Grenade Launcher
- The beam rifle mounts a grenade launcher loaded with a single rocket-propelled grenade.
- Mega Gatling Gun
- Used by the simulation model, MS-14J Plus(Prototype). This weapon was still being developed by Anaheim Electronics, and would eventually become the main weapon of the MSN-03 Jagd Doga. It has excellent concentrated firing capability, and generates little heat.[3]
- Beam Naginata
- Used by the simulation model, it is mounted on the back of the waist when not in use.[3]
- Missile Pod
- An 8-tube missile pod mounted on the right side of the backpack.[3]
- Shield
- An oval-shaped piece of defensive equipment. It has a beam-resistant coating, and can withstand beam attacks to some extent.
History
After Led Wayline was defeated by Char Aznable's Custom Dijeh at Confeito, Rimia Greenwood decided to design a mobile suit capable of defeating Char. The result was the Gelgoog Vertex, a mobile suit envisioned as the next generation main mobile suit for the Chimera Corps. The simulated prototype was tested by Cristobal Rutherford, who commented that it was an amazing machine.
Later, an actual unit - the Vertex Testarossa, envisioned as Johnny Ridden's unit - was test-flied above Granada.
Variants
- MS-14J Plus(Prototype) Gelgoog Vertex
- A simulated prototype for the Gelgoog Vertex, it featured two verniers in each binder instead of three. During testing, it was armed with a beam naginata and a mega gatling gun, a weaopn that was still being developed by Anaheim Electronics.[1]
- Gelgoog Vertex Testarossa
- Johnny Ridden's personal machine.
- Gelgoog Vertex Curenos
- Uma Lightning's personal machine.
- Gelgoog Vertex Xanthos
- Jacobius Node's personal machine. Equipped with three-kind scope and armed with Hyper Mega Launcher, beam rifle which can be mounted on unit's backpack and fired directly, and sniper beam rifle.
