The MS-06 Zaku (MS-06 ザク Zaku?) is a mobile suit that appears in the movie Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning-.[1][2]

Technology & Combat Characteristics[]

Developed by Zeonic, the Zaku was the mainstay Mobile Suit (MS) of the Principality of Zeon Armed Forces and were deployed in large numbers during the One Year War.[1] It was the successor to the MS-05 Zaku (Zaku 0), and was characterized by its high maneuverability as a humanoid weapon and its excellent versatility, allowing it to be used in space and under gravity with minor modifications. The Zaku was also notable for its ease of operation, maintenance, and productivity, which made it suitable for mass production.[1] It was equipped with a Zaku machine gun, heat hawk, crackers, and other weapons, making it suitable for a wide range of battle situations from guerrilla warfare to mobile suit combat.[1]

Armaments[]

The standard weapon for Zaku-type mobile suits. It was a shell firing gun that does not require energy to be used, however its effectiveness against heavy armor is very limited. The Zaku machine gun was fed by a drum magazine on top and with a pivoted handle under its barrel.[3]
An axe-shaped close combat weapon which utilized a super-heated blade to cut through the armor of enemy mobile weapons. The thermal energy was generated by the power output of the Zaku's thermonuclear reactor and relayed through the mobile suit's hands.
The cracker was a hand grenade-like weapon designed to be thrown or launched by the Zaku and detonate after a set amount of time. It broke into several smaller munitions over a wide area. Cracker's munition included explosive rounds and flashbangs.[2]

The MS-06 Zaku formed the backbone of Zeon's mobile suit force throughout the Earth-Space conflict in UC 0079. It was deployed in large numbers and participated in major battles such as Operation British and the Battle of Loum in January UC 0079.[4]

On September 18, UC 0079, a Zaku team comprised of Major Char Aznable and his suboordinates, Denim and Slender, infiltrated EFF's secret military base inside Side 7 colony.[4][2] Char and Denim's Zakus destroyed almost all of the base's RX-series mobile weapon parts including RX-77-02 Guncannons and RX-75 Guntanks.[2] While Denim's Zaku provided cover, Char stole the RX-78-02 White Gundam and eventually the Pegasus-class carrier to be used and analyzed by the Zeon's Mobile Assault Force.[4][2]

The Zaku would continue to serve Zeon's cause until the end of the war, including units from Char's fleet that participated in an effort to sabotage EFF's Operation Solomon Drop on January 3, UC 0080.[2] After the war, a large number of Zakus came into the possession of civilians and military police forces, which would be used for a variety of purposes ranging from colony construction mobile workers, police space patrol, and illegal clan battles. In order to prevent it from using weapons, civilian versions have the combat installer device removed.[2]

Variants[]

  • MS-06 Zaku (Earth Federation Forces Specifications)
A captured Zaku unit used by the Earth Federation Forces for their MS to MS mock battles.[1] This unit alongside 01 Gundam was deployed during an operation to recapture the White Gundam, but was destroyed by the White Gundam's beam rifle.[2]
A Zaku owned by Kaneban Co. used by the Pomeranians on the illegal "Clan Battles".[5] Externally it looks identical to Zaku-type mobile suit, except the shoulder shield, and exposed left arm. This unit is only equipped with an imitation of MS-06 Heat Hawk called the Tomenosuke Heat Hawk. While this unit supposed to be participated as Pomeranian's MS, its combat installer device was broken, which grounded it from participate in the Clan Battles.[5]
A modified Zaku used by Private Companies to suit their needs.[5] Due to Zaku versatility and modularity makes it favoured by private companies as mobile worker unit. One such notable was the Zaku used by Kuroshio Construction company, which its right arm replaced with forklift-type arm, modified left shoulder, and warning lights.[5]
  • Zaku (Clan Specifications)
A modified Zaku unit used for the illegal Clan Battles. Since the civilian variant of the Zaku wasn't made for combat, nor had any combat installer device, modifications was needed in order to restore its combat capabilities.[5] Due to the lack of regulations for customization in Clan Battle, these Zakus were mainly customized base on its pilot preferences.[5]

  • The Kuroshio Construction (黒潮建設 Kuroshio Kentetsu?) markings on the civilian Zaku is a reference to the fictional conglomerate Kuroshio Group featured in the Rebuild of Evangelion film series, also produced by khara inc..
