Template:Infobox/Mobile Weapon Ver.2The MS-06R-2P Zaku II High Mobility Test Type is one of many variants of the MS-06 Zaku II series of Mobile Suits.
Technology & Combat Characteristics
As Zeon worked to upgrade its aging MS-06 Zaku II series during the One Year War, they intended to replace the space-use mobile suit MS-06F Zaku II with a new high-performance model, the MS-11 Act Zaku. But it was still under development, a MS-06R-1A Zaku II High Mobility Type was heavily modified to serve as a testbed unit for the Act Zaku's development team. Incorporating the Act Zaku's powerful reactor and cooling system, the testbed Zaku II High Mobility Test Type could use beam weapons. The Zaku II High Mobility Test Type unit was so heavily and continually modified over its service life that it earned the nickname "MS-06R-3 Zaku III."
Armaments
- Shoulder Shield
- Mounted on the right shoulder, it is a simple defense used to block most physical projectiles.
- 120mm Machine Gun
- A standard weapon for Zaku type mobile suits. It is a shell firing gun that does not require energy to be used, however its effectiveness against heavy armor is very limited. This model used a 100-round drum magazine.
- Prototype Beam Rifle
- Heat Hawk
- An axe-shaped close combat weapon, it uses a super-heated blade to cut through the armor of enemy MS or vehicles. The thermal energy is generated by the power output of the Zaku II's thermonuclear reactor and relayed through the MS' hands.
History
When the RX-78-2 Gundam with its hand-held beam weapons appears, Zeon engineers were forced to redesign the mobile suit. The MS-11 project was scrapped and Zeonic Company started on a new mobile suit called MS-14 Gelgoog. The plans for the MS-11 Act Zaku was later assigned to the Pezun Asteroid Base.
