The MD-0021 Desultor (デスルター Desurutaa?) is a mobile suit introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
During the early days of mobile suit development, many companies focused on improving the connection between the pilot and the machine, or in other words, using human as software. In contrast to this, Jeturk Heavy Machinery prioritized developing hardware that would be practical in combat and wouldn't demand as much skill from the pilot. The MD-0021 Desultor was created from this design philosophy. Equipped with armaments that allowed it to operate in a wide variety of combat situations, this unit proved the effectiveness of mobile suits as weapons. During the raid on Plant Quetta in A.S. 122, the anti-Spacian organization known as the Dawn of Fold used several Desultors that had been illegally obtained. While the Desultor was considered obsolete by some in this era, its reliable combat capabilities had yet to become outdated, and it was still seeing active deployments in battlefields across the galaxy.
Armaments[]
- 140mm Vulcan
- Solid weaponry affixed to the unit's chest.
- Shield
- A defensive armament that attaches to the upper arm. Magazines for assault rifles can be mounted on the back. The commander's unit is marked with a yellow line at the bottom.
- Assault Rifle
- A 100mm rifle that is carried by a mobile suit. It has semi-automatic and automatic firing modes. The foregrip is used for more precise aiming.
- Heat Knife
- Weapons stored in both arms for use in melee combat. When deployed, the blades glow with a heat that is capable of melting an enemy's armor.
- Beltablad R3
- A large recoiless cannon that fires missiles with optic sensors. This item is named after its developer.
- Grenade Launcher
- A grenade launcher that attaches to the upper arm. It fires three rounds at a time. Olcott's unit was one of the Dawn of Fold's mobile suits that utilized this equipment.
Equipment[]
- Drone Container
- A container-shaped launching unit that attaches to the back of a mobile suit. It houses 28 communication-jamming drones referred to as COMJAM pods.
- Troop Randsel
- A rear unit used for transporting military personnel. The backpack detaches when arriving at the target destination. This equipment can be applied in assault strategies that utilize pinpoint deployments of troops.
History[]
Shaddiq Zenelli provided six Desultors to the Dawn of Fold during the attack on Plant Quetta. Shaddiq's intention was to cast suspicion on Jeturk Heavy Machinery for their supposed involvement in the procurement of the mobile suits.[1]
