The MBF-M1+EF-24R M1 Astray Shrike is a variation of the MBF-M1 M1 Astray introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
After the First Alliance-PLANT War, most of the Orb Union's MBF-M1 M1 Astrays obtained atmospheric flight capabilities through the use of the backpack-mounted EF-24R Shrike, and this form is known as the MBF-M1+EF-24R M1 Astray Shrike.[1][2][3] The Shrike is a flight unit developed specifically for the M1 Astray, and consisted of thrusters and large rotors.[1] Thanks to these large rotors, the M1 Astray Shrike is capable of rapid vertical take-off and turning.[1] The M1 Astray Shrike can be deployed from the decks of naval vessels and engage in aerial combat over the open water, allowing it to defend Orb Union at sea as well as on land.[1][2] The M1 Astray Shrike has the same standard armament as the M1 Astray, consisting of a pair of CIWS, two beam sabers, a beam rifle and a shield.[1][2]
Armaments[]
- "Igelstellung" 75mm Multi-Barrel CIWS
- A pair of head-mounted Vulcan guns, they are small-caliber shell firing weapons designed to shoot down missiles and lightly armored vehicles, but are ineffective against the armor of a mobile suit.
- Type 70 Beam Saber
- A close combat weapon that emits a beam blade during use. The M1 Astray Shrike retained the beam sabers of the original M1 Astray, with a pair of them stored on its backpack.
- Type 71 Beam Rifle
- The M1 Astray Shrike's main weapon, it is the same lightweight beam rifle as used by the original M1 Astray. Its performance is identical to the Strike Gundam's beam rifle.
- Shield
- A defensive armament mounted on the left forearm and/or handheld, this is the same physical shield with anti-beam coating as used by the M1 Astray.
- Type 71-44 Improved Sniper Beam Rifle
- A handheld beam weapon originally used by the MBF-M1A M1A Astray, it was developed specifically for long distance shooting. Used on a customized blue M1 Astray Shrike Gunpla in Gundam Build Fighters.
History[]
Second Alliance-PLANT War[]
In C.E. 73, several M1 Astray Shrikes were stationed on the massive sea carrier Takemikazuchi during the battles at Dardanelles and at Crete.[4][5][6] Later, when ZAFT invaded Orb, numerous M1 Astrays and M1 Astray Shrikes were deployed to defend the nation.[7]
Foundation Conflict][]
In C.E. 75, the M1 Astray Shrikes were used to evacuate civilians from Orb's capital, Olofat, under threat from Requiem controlled by the Kingdom of Foundation.

Notes & Trivia[]
- When Orb Union forces were under Yuna Roma Seiran's command, the M1 Astray Shrikes use the Stormtrooper sound effect used by the Earth Alliance for beam rifle shots and reuses frames from GAT-04 Windam. This is in contrast to its original appearance where it used standard beam rifle sound effects instead.
