Lohengrin Gate is a location introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny.

Overview

Lohengrin Gate is a military base and fortification built to guard the Gulnahan Ravine. The Lohengrin Gate is defended by a Positron Blaster Cannon, positioned at a high vantage point that enables it to destroy any target that enters the valley.

History

With the outbreak of the Second Alliance-PLANT War, ZAFT's bases in Asia and Africa found themselves under attack by the Earth Alliance. One contentious spot was the no man's land between the Earth Alliance's Suez Base and ZAFT's Gibraltar Base, a ZAFT base in Mahamul served as a buffer zone. However, the Alliance had taken over the Gulnahan Ravine and used it to build the Lohengrin Gate. Efforts to take down the Gate were rebuffed due to the presence of a YMAG-X7F Gells-Ghe, whose Positron Reflector prevented it from being attacked.

Allying with the Ruddle Team and local resistance fighters, the crew of the Minerva and FAITH member Athrun Zala served as a distraction while Shinn Asuka slipped in undetected with the ZGMF-X56S Impulse Gundam in its smaller components via a cave system in the mountains. Thanks to this plan, Athrun was able to disable and destroy the Gells-Ghe with his ZGMF-X23S Saviour Gundam while Shinn critically damaged a GAT-02L2 Dagger L, causing it to explode inside the base and destroy both it and the Positron Blaster Cannon.
