Laminated Armor is a material introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

Technical Information

Consisting of a single piece of outer layer armor, rather than connected plates, Laminated Armor is capable of providing protection against beam weaponry by dispersing the thermal energy across the entire surface of the armor. The metal is able to withstand high-power energy attacks for a short period of time, but will eventually begin to melt from the accumulated heat. The material is most commonly used for the hulls of warships, however, it can also be used on mobile suits and their weaponry.

History

Laminated Armor was used by the Orb Union as the hull material for the Izumo-class warship. When the Atlantic Federation and the Orb Union cooperated in the G Project, the prototype battleship, the Archangel, was designed based off of the Izumo-class and was constructed with Laminated Armor.

By C.E. 71, the Earth Alliance incorporated Laminated Armor in certain body section of a few mobile suits, such as the GAT-01A1 Dagger and the GAT/A-01E2 Buster Dagger. ZAFT also used this material in the shields of the ZGMF-X09A Justice Gundam and the ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam.
