The Lacus Clyne Shuttle Hijacking is a conflict of the Second Alliance-PLANT War, featured in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny.

Prelude[]

Following the failed assassination attempt on her life by a group of unknown Coordinators,[1] Lacus Clyne and former members of the Archangel grew especially suspicious of current PLANT Supreme Chairman Gilbert Durandal.[2] This suspicion only grew due to the introduction of the fake Lacus Clyne, Meer Campbell, who used Lacus' influence to sway the public to support Durandal.[3] After the ship interfered in the Battle of Dardanelles, they were surprised to learn that former ally-turned FAITH agent, Athrun Zala, was not even informed of the secret assassination attempt.[4]

Lacus would reflect on the current situation with Kira Yamato and opted to observe what the situation in the PLANTs was. To do so, she and Andrew Waltfeld not only contacted their old crewmates from the Eternal,[5] but also had their information and network organization Terminal dig up any potential leads regarding the Chairman.[6]

The Hijacking[]

Knowing that Meer was taking a shuttle to return to the PLANTs, Lacus and Waltfeld disguised themselves as Meer and her manager; arriving earlier than scheduled and having a small autographing session before entering the shuttle. When the real Meer arrived, however, Waltfeld and his men had already managed to knock out the shuttle's crew and commandeer it.[6]

Realizing the situation, ZAFT control center began launching several AMA-953 BABI and TFA-4DE GAZuOOT to stop the shuttle from leaving. The hail of fire, however, was stopped when Kira arrived with the ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam and disabled all the BABIs and GAZuOOTs before damaging the screens of the control center. Though Kira wished to accompany Lacus, she requested him to continue supporting the Archangel as she was leaving for space.[6]

Aftermath[]

Upon reaching space, both Lacus and Waltfeld abandoned the shuttle to rendezvous with Martin DaCosta, Waltfeld's second-in-command who captained the Eternal in their absence.[5] A small team of ZGMF-1000 ZAKU Warriors was also in the area, but were dealt with and silenced. Though Chairman Durandal was informed, and ordered for continued reports for any signs of the "impostor", he was somewhat satisfied to have at least split Lacus from Kira for the moment.[5]

Lacus' time in space eventually yielded information regarding Durandal's grand ambition, the Destiny Plan, the radical solution of solving conflict by stripping people of their individuality and freedom in exchange for a guided future based solely on their genetic skills.[7]
