Technology & Combat Characteristic
The smallest vessel of the Orb Union's naval fleet, the Kuraomikami-class is heavily armed, despite its small size. Its armament consits of a single dual rapid-fire gun turret on the front side of the ship, as well as four 25mm anti-air gatling guns, which are used on most naval vessels to shoot down incoming missiles or mobile units. Besides these weapons, the ships also features four anti-air and six anti-ship missile launchers, allowing the ship to unleash a large number of missiles on the enemy.
Because of its small size, there are no Mobile Suits stationed on the ship. It however usually carries one Heli. Its primary use is to escort larger warships in the Orb fleet. The Kuraomikami-class was the only other mass-produced ship in the Orb Naval fleet besides the Aegis-class cruiser.
History
First Alliance-PLANT War
Third Equatorial Skirmish
Several Kuraomikami-class-class destroyers were deployed to Orb's boarder as the Earth Alliance battleship, the Archangel, was engaged in battle against ZAFT's Zala Team nearby.[1] These vessels were later used to escort the Archangel out of Orb's waters after the ship had spent several weeks in the country.[2]
Battle of Orb
Alongside the Aegis-class, multiple Kuraomikami-class destroyers were used to defend Orb against a massive attack by the Earth Alliance.[3]
Second Alliance-PLANT War
Battle of Dardanelles
Several Kuraomikami-class destroyers were part of the joint EA-Orb fleet which attacked the ZAFT ship Minerva. During the battle, the Archangel intervened and worked to prevent any Kuraomikami-class vessels from attacking the Minerva, but it did not destroy any of them.[4]
Battle of Crete
These ships were deployed again in combat against the Minerva. The joint EA-Orb fleet was decimated in this battle and several Kuraomikami-class destroyers were destroyed.[5][6]
Second Battle of Orb - Operation Fury
These ships were deployed to defend Orb again, this time against a ZAFT attack.[7][8]
