The Kingdom of Foundation (ファウンデーション王国, Faundeshon Okoku^?) (aka Foundation) is a faction introduced in the animated film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom.

Overview

The Kingdom of Foundation is a small nation in southern Eurasia that unilaterally declared independence with the support of ZAFT. It succeeded in resisting an invasion by the Eurasian Federation, thus achieving de facto independence, though it struggled to gain international recognition. Through the secret use of the Destiny Plan, the Foundation rapidly achieved technological and economic development, successfully establishing a presence in space in a relatively short amount of time.

The capital city, Ishtaria, is the main political and economic hub of Foundation.

Military

The Foundation's military is largely equipped with old ZAFT Mobile Suits, such as the ZGMF/A-1018F GINN-F and AMF/A-102F DINN-F, as well as the remotely-controlled ZGMF-1017Q GINN-R and AMF-101Q/4 DINN-R. However, the Black Knight Squad is equipped with advanced mobile suits like the NOG-M4F Rud-ro.A and NOG-M1A1 Shi-ve.A.

The Foundation's space fleet consists of a mix of Nazca-class destroyers and Laurasia-class frigates purchased from PLANT, as well as the indigenous Baldr-class battleship. The Vanaheimr-class battleship BCI-183 Gullveig serves as the Foundation's main flagship.

Notes & Trivia

• Foundation is the first known monarchy under the reign of a Coordinator.
• Foundation may be named after the titular organization from Isaac Asimov's Foundation series. In a similar vein to the Kingdom's purpose, the series is about building a new civilization following the fall of the preceding civilization and corresponding dark age.
