The Kidnapping of Orb's Chief Representative is a conflict of the Second Alliance-PLANT War, featured in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny.

Prelude[]

During the First Alliance-PLANT War, most of the Orb Union's neutral figures, including former ruler Uzumi Nara Athha, were killed during the First Battle of Orb[1], and this led to a power vacuum filled in by more Alliance-centered officials led by the Seiran family. Despite Cagalli Yula Athha inheriting her father's position from the previous war, she proved to merely be a figurehead.

While she made attempts to maintain Orb's neutrality, Orb's blatant attempt to trap the ZAFT ship, Minerva[2] and join the Alliance was unavoidable. Rather than risk civil war, Cagalli reluctantly opted to marry Yuna Roma Seiran in the hopes of keeping Orb unified and finding an alternative solution. The Archangel, a former member of the Three Ships Alliance, and a believer of Uzumi's stance of a neutral Orb, knew Cagalli had been pressured into this situation. After the failed Assassination Attempt of Lacus Clyne, Lacus, Kira Yamato, Murrue Ramius, and Andrew Waltfeld recruited several of the Archangel’s former crew and reactivated the ship, opting to retrieve Cagalli before departing Orb for the Kingdom of Scandinavia.[3]

The Kidnapping[]

The Archangel launched from its underwater hangar and emerged from the water. Kira then launched in the ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam and headed straight for the wedding. During Cagalli’s wedding, before she and Yuna could exchange vows, the Freedom arrived to crash the event, quickly disabling the four MBF-M1 M1 Astrays standing guard before picking up Cagalli and fleeing back to the Archangel. On his way back, two MVF-M11C Murasames had been deployed to intercept the Freedom. Kira brought Cagalli into the Freedom’s cockpit and proceeded to disable the Murasames with the Freedom’s beam sabers.

Back at the Archangel, several Aegis-class and Kuraomikami-class vessels, commanded by Captain Todaka surrounded the ship as the Freedom was coming aboard. Todoka, who respected Uzumi’s neutral stance for Orb, ordered that all ships refrain from firing on the Archangel under the excuse of potentially endangering Cagalli. After the Freedom entered the Archangel, the ship submerged underwater, while Todoka and other Orb officers saluted the ship as it left.[3]

Aftermath[]

Though the wedding did not carry through as planned, the absence of Cagalli allowed the Seirans to formally usurp the government and solidify the nation as a member of the Alliance. However, Yuna's policies were very unpopular with both Orb’s citizens and the military personnel, many of whom wished for Cagalli's return.[4]

Cagalli herself was encouraged by the crew of the Archangel to take a harder stance toward Orb's original neutrality, and she and the ship would later interfere at the battles of Dardanelles[5] and Crete[6] in an attempt to assert Orb's former position in the war.

Eventually, Cagalli returned to Orb, and during ZAFT’s attack on the nation, codenamed: Operation Fury, she successfully ousted the Seirans from power and reclaimed her position as Orb’s leader.[7]
