Kaite Madigan (カイト・マディガン?) is a fictional character who first appeared in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny Astray and later in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED VS Astray.
History
Kaite is a freelance professional MS pilot who works as Jess Rabble's escort. He is always dressed in a crisp suit, though he wears a sleeveless battle suit in the battle against the Testament Gundam, and takes on various requests involving MS, many of which involve combat, so his position is quite similar to that of a mercenary. He is so confident in his abilities that he rarely wears a pilot suit during battle, even when he has to go to cold regions. He has a collection of countless mobile suits, both Alliance and ZAFT, some of which he uses in his missions. Some of them are nearly impossible to obtain legally and the circumstances of their acquisition are extremely questionable, such as the state-of-the-art New Millennium Series, which was only being deployed in a few parts of ZAFT at the time, and the two Sword Calamities (Unit 1 and Edward Harrelson's unit). He even owns an entire colony as a home and facility for repairing, maintaining, storing, and testing the mobile suits. It is thought that he probably bought it cheaply from an abandoned colony during the war, and most of his earnings seem to have gone to maintenance costs.
Although he is a Coordinator, it seems that his appearance did not turn out as his parents wanted, and that is why he was abandoned in the past. He is then taken in by the "Circus", an organization that trains and dispatches such Coordinators as soldiers. He worked hard to improve his piloting skills in order to leave the organization, which involve a test that requires him to fight against multiple organization members at once. In remembrance of those he killed to leave the "Circus", some of the mobile suits he owns has a cross painted on the left side, which is a mark placed on the unit of those who took the test to leave the organization. He dislikes Elijah Kiel, who has a beautiful appearance, because of his past and does not approve of those who do not put in the effort (in reality, Elijah did not spare any effort to become stronger, and has now acquired abilities comparable to an ace pilot). However, he eventually recognized the effort Elijah put in to become stronger, and even gave him a customized ZAKU Phantom.
He is quite fond of women, and whenever he sees a woman, he always calls out to her. The fact that he always wears a suit seems to be a fashionable way to pick up women. Because of this past, he is looking for a partner who needs him, and that is why he calls out to women. He is kind to children because of his own miserable childhood. He prefers composite armaments, and always has a customized gun (switchable between beam and physical ammunition, with a knife attached) on his MS, including the Testament Gundam he later acquired. Additionally, his customized Zaku Phantom is equipped with shoulder shields that have Gatling guns and can also function as large swords.
In "VS ASTRAY", since Jess is less likely to be attacked during interviews, he is once again taking private jobs and is hired by Librarian Works to pilot the Regen Duel Gundam, but he is not an official member of the group.
