JOSH-A is a military base on Earth in the series Gundam SEED.

History

JOint Supreme Headquarters - Alaska, JOSH-A (pronounced Joshua) was a major military base of the Atlantic Federation, it also served as the headquarters of the Earth Alliance forces during the First Alliance-PLANT War. Most of the facilities of this massive base was underground and as implied by its name, it was located in Alaska. The base was designed to withstand anything up to a nuclear attack and as such, was heavily fortified and could only be accessed by gates hidden in the landscape.

On May 5, CE 71, ZAFT launched Operation Spit Break. However, at the last minute, the operation's target was switched to JOSH-A and due to this sudden change, 72 hours elapsed before ZAFT's assault on JOSH-A began.^[1] Unbeknownst to ZAFT, the Atlantic Federation had set a trap and secretly installed a Cyclops System under the base after Rau Le Creuset leaked information about the operation. The base was then evacuated of Atlantic Federation personnel, leaving the personnel of the Eurasian Federation (the Atlantic Federation's greatest rival) to defend the base on their own along with the Atlantic Federation's own unwanted forces such as the Archangel.

ZAFT forces were eventually lured into the interior of the base in large numbers, allowing the Atlantic Federation to "kill two birds with one stone" by triggering the Cyclops System. The attacking ZAFT forces and the Eurasian forces were mostly wiped out, while the base itself was reduced to a smoking crater. This event tilted the inner Earth Alliance's balance of powers mostly towards the Blue Cosmos-controlled Atlantic Federation. After the destruction of JOSH-A, its functions were transferred to Heaven's Base in Iceland.

JOSH-A is the Cosmic Era's version of the Earth Federation's Jaburo base. Both bases were also similarly destroyed with superweapons attempting to wipe out opposing forces.
