Ingrid Tradoll (イングリット・トラドール?) is a character introduced in the animated film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom.
Personality & Character[]
As with the rest of the Black Knight Squad, she was raised into believing that she is superior to regular humans and coordinators because she is an Accord and is dutybound to accept her fate as a consequence. As such, she believes the Destiny Plan is the only path to world peace and that free will would only perpetuate the endless cycle of conflict. However, her unrequited feelings for Orphee Lam Tao who is fixated on Lacus Clyne, who the Accords believe is superior to Ingrid, causes her to feel inferior. This causes her much suffering.
She is also more respectful than the other Black Knights, chastising them for being rude to their guests. She is more reasonable, listening to Lacus and Kira Yamato when they speak instead of belittling them or being stubborn like her comrades.[1]
Skills & Abilities[]
She possesses abilities typical of an Accord, which allows her to communicate with the other Accords telepathically.[1]
Physical Aspects & Clothing[]
History[]
Ingrid was created by Aura Maha Khyber at the Mendel Genetics Lab as an Accord in order to usher in a new era of peace and prosperity in accordance with Gilbert Durandal's Destiny Plan. She was raised by Aura and at some point became the Secretary of State for Foundation under Aura's leadership as well as one of the Black Knight Squad.
Ingrid is first seen when Compass visit Foundation. She guides the members around the palace and when they enter the courtyard, she waits as they watch the swordfight between Shura Serpentine and Liu Shenqiang. When they try to goad Kira into joining them and the other Black Knights mock him for refusing, she tells them off for being rude. She watches as Shinn Asuka rises to the challenge and faces Shura. At the party, she watches in pain when she sees Orphee dancing with Lacus and again when she sees Orphee making advances on her at night.
During the joint operation with Compass and the Eurasian Federation against Blue Cosmos, she joins Maha and Orphee in the command room and evacuates with them after a nuclear missile is launched at Ishtaria. She watches in sorrow as the city is wiped out.
Ingrid boards the Gullveig with the other Black Knights and watches in the command room as the Requiem is fired against the Eurasian Federation. She also watches Orphee's speech when he attempts to blackmail the nations of Earth into accepting the Destiny Plan. She is also tasked with watching over Lacus, and escorts her Maha's office. She was surprised when she heard Lacus declare how people are needed because they are loved rather than vice versa. Ingrid was entrusted with protecting Maha after Orphee left to sortie. She questions Lacus about why she won't accept her role, and runs off when Orphee enters. She waits outside while Orphee attempts to force himself on Lacus and is once again rejected. She obeys when she is ordered to defend Artemis alongside Shura.
Ingrid uses Lacus as a hostage
When invaders infiltrate Artemis and the crew report explosions within the defensive line, she leaves Maha's side in order to deal with the invaders. She quickly notices the sleeping gas and wears her mask before it can take effect, leaving her as one of the only people on Artemis who is still awake. She informs Shura telepathically that enemies have invaded. She heads straight for Lacus and tells her that she will kill her before the enemy can get their hands on her, but instead takes her hostage when Kira and Ledonir Kisaka appear. She threatens to cut her eyes and throat, asking if Kira would still love her if she was blind and couldn't sing. She is taken aback when he tells her she would love her anyway, and Lacus uses the opening to break free. Kira then rescues Lacus and though she tries to kill Kira, she is subdued by Ledonir. She breaks down in tears as they leave.
Ingrid returns to the Gullveig with Maha, and is slapped by Orphee for failing her task. She cries as he chastises her and joins him in the Cal-re.A in order to intercept the Freedom. She assists Orphee as he faces Kira alongside Shura, but Athrun Zala intervenes and holds off Shura while Lacus arrives in the Proud Defender and supports Kira. The two duos then face off. During the battle, Ingrid notices Shura's death and is saddened. Orphee continues to argue and yell at Lacus, and claims that he is not loved despite his capabilities. When Lacus tells him that he may be loved by someone close to her, Ingrid is surprised. She finally moves to Orphee's side as their defeat becomes imminent and he loses control of his emotions, but the Freedom's blade pierces the Cal-re.A's cockpit and fatally wounds Orphee. She comforts him as he insists on his role, and he finally calms down as the mobile suit explodes and the pair are killed.[1]
Relationships[]
Orphee Lam Tao[]
Ingrid loves Orphee, but he is unaware of her feelings and cares only about Lacus. Ingrid is unwilling to confess her feelings as the Accord were raised believing in the Destiny Plan and that their roles are already fixed, which leaves her in constant anguish as Ingrid is forced to accept that Lacus is more suitable for Orphee. After Lacus' words towards the end of her life, she finally stands besides Orphee and comforts him in their dying moments.
Lacus Clyne[]
Ingrid envies Lacus, who is the object of her crush's affection. However, she does not say anything to her because she believes that Lacus is genetically suited to be with Orphee while her own genes are inadequate. Ingrid does however start questioning Lacus when she refuses to accept her fate and be with Orphee. Thanks to Lacus, Ingrid finally gains the courage she needs to stand besides Orphee at the very end.
Kira Yamato[]
Ingrid believes that people are only loved because of their qualities, and thinks that Kira would no longer love Lacus if she lost her abilities of sight and song. She is shocked when he tells her otherwise and forced to acknowledge that the pair love each other in spite of their qualities.
