The hijackers are a faction featured in the Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway movie.
History[]
On April 19th, U.C. 0105, an armed terrorist group falsely claiming to be the anti-Earth Federation group Mafty boarded and hijacked Haunzen Flight 356 shortly after it descended into Earth's atmosphere en route from Von Braun to Hong Kong. The group consisted of six individuals wearing masks, one of whom claimed to be Mafty Navue Erin, the leader of Mafty. Flight 356 was targeted because multiple Earth Federation cabinet ministers and other key officials were traveling aboard it to reach the Adelaide Conference, the 25th official meeting of the government cabinet. The hijackers' plan was to ransom the ministers for "war funds". This approach was markedly different from the real Mafty, which sought to assassinate all cabinet members to pressure the Earth Federation into evacuating all humans from Earth to the colonies to prevent further deterioration of the planet's environment.[1]
During their seizure of the Haunzen, the hijackers split into two groups of three. The first group breached the cockpit and killed the three Haunzen pilots, and one of the hijackers took control of the craft. The second group stormed the passenger compartment after killing the flight's two security guards. While checking the passenger manifest, the impostor Mafty Navue Erin murdered Public Health Minister Hiram Mescher and his wife, Beatrice, because he was agitated by the noise they were making.[1]
Unknown to the hijackers, the real Mafty Navue Erin, Hathaway Noa, was also on board Flight 356. Hathaway, with the help of Kenneth Sleg, swiftly dealt with the hijackers. At least two hijackers were killed, while the others were incapacitated and tied up. The Haunzen was diverted to Davao, Philippines, and landed safely.[1]
Although Gigi Andalucia and Hathaway knew the hijackers were not the real Mafty, Kenneth suspected that they were from an alleged splinter group called Mafty's Army, which was reportedly based in Oenbelli, Australia, and had tens of thousands of followers. One of the passengers also mentioned that he had heard the hijackers planned to fly Flight 356 to Australia.[1]
