“ | I did it 'cause I had to, not 'cause I wanted to. | ” |
—Hailey Arhun explains to Dr Ony Kasuga why she killed E.F.F. soldiers instead of sparing their lives.[3] |
Hailey Arhun (ヘイリー・アーフン Heirī Āfun?) is one of the character from Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance.[1]
Background[]
Raised in the Tigerbaum colony[4] of Side 3, 2nd. Lt. Arhun is an infantry who belongs to the 1st Armored Infantry Company under Zeon's Earth Attack Force during the One Year War. Her unit partnered with the Stein Battalion which was in-charge of the re-capture operation of E.F.F.'s military headquarter in Cluj-Napoca, Romania in Eastern Europe on November 6, U.C. 0079. Arhun's unit were ambushed by the E.F.F. raid in the early morning on November 7, resulting in her commanding officer critically injured, thus leaving Arhun the most senior soldier within the unit. In order to evacuate her Company and the wounded to safety, Arhun joins up with Iria Solari's team.[5]
Personality & Character[]
Arhun is patriotic with an attitude. Prior to her enlistment to Zeon Armed Force, Arhun was a delinquent who hacked ele-cars and stole them for joyride back in her native Tigerbaum.[4] While in the military her avant-garde attire and tattoos led to repeated reprimands and punishments from her superiors[1]. Aside from her rebellious exterior, Arhun is obedient to her commanding officer and care for her subordinates, and she respects people like Solari who shows leadership in time of crisis, as she works closely with the latter to bring her troops out of harm's way.[5]
Arhun is sympathetic to Zeon's course for independence, and she cannot comprehend Dr Ony Kasuga's belief of pacifism and equality between Zeon and Earth Federation. For Arhun, the E.F.F. is her enemy and there is no other way around, yet she is not a blood-thirsty person as she kills the enemies out of necessity.[5]
Skills & Abilities[]
Arhun processes excellent fighting abilities, as she is well-versed in infantry warfare, and demonstrates good shooting skill with not only assault rifle but also the Armored Vehicle's machine cannon. Her athleticism enables her to perform audacious attack against E.F.F's mobile suit with only an armored vehicle and escapes unharmed.[6] In the absence of her commanding officer, Arhun is shown to be a capable leader who is able to work with peoples outside of her Company and evacuate her subordinates effectively.[5]

Its caliber and the type of ammunition used are not known. The rifle is magazine-fed with pouches are available in single-shot type or three consecutive type which can be attached to user's suspenders or belts.[9]
- CALT M72A1 Assault Rifle[10]
- The standard rifle of Earth Federation Force used in the One Year War.[11]With the caliber of 4.85mm and 71cm long, the M72A1 was developed based on the bullpup-type automatic rifles used in pre-UC era for the ease of operation in tight spaces.[10] The rifle is magazine-fed behind the trigger and can be selectively fired in either fully automatic or semi-automatic mode.[11] The M72A1 was used by Arhun during Solari's GM-jack operation in November UC 0079.[4]
History[]
One Year War[]
European Front[]
On the early morning of November 7, U.C. 0079, the EFF launched a surprise raid at the Cluj-Napoca military base which was re-captured by Zeon's Stein Battalion only half a day ago. The attack inflicted serious damage and loss of lives, including 2nd. Lt. Hailey Arhun's unit, the 1st Armored Infantry Company with its commanding officer critically wounded and incapacitated, leaving Arhun being its most senior member. Guided by one of the 1stAIC soldier, Solari and co. encountered Arhun and her unit. Upon knowing the situation Arhun and her Company was in, Solari instructed Arhun to gather her troops for evacuation while the Red Wolf captain would execute an audacious plan to distract the intruding Gundam EX with LeSean, Heaton and a couple of Zaku Tanks. Although the Gundam came out unscathed, Solari's plan worked and provided ample time for Arhun's infantry convoy to escape.[5]
Despite continuous interference by Gundam EX, the escaping convoy was able to head to the Romanian Mixed Mobile Brigade Headquarter, the home base of Solari and the Red Wolves. They came too late as the HQ and all weapons were destroyed by EFF and Gundam EX's attack moments earlier with only a few survivors. On Heaton's suggestion, the gang then headed towards the nearby recycling centre run by Maj. Rolph Ronet of Brigade Support Command. Claiming the centre had no more capacity for accommodation, the major asked the gang to leave but soon they were warmly received by Solari's old friend, Tech. Capt. Alfee Zydos (Gearhead) who led the resident mechanics corps to salvage useful parts from damaged mobile weapons to keep Zeon's supply lines alive. On Solari's suggestion and persuasion, Zydos and his mechanics swiftly assembled two fully functional Zaku IIs using recycled parts from discarded Zakus and Magella tanks. As the EFF mounted a surprised raid at the recycling centre and the Red Wolf duo Solari and LeSean put the newly-built Zakus in action against the intruding Gundam EX and RGM-79 GM, Arhun, with help from her subordinate, use an Armored Vehicle to attack and distract the EFF's GM from inflicting more destruction at the centre. Afterwards, Arhun was grief stricken as her Company had been annihilated, leaving her the sole survivor.[6]
Under the order of Maj. Gen. Yuri Kellerne, Arhun joined Solari, Heaton and Zydos to infiltrate the EFF's military base near The Olt in a daring operation to hijack two GMs for Zeon's technical examinations. Disguised as EFF soldiers, Arhun and Solari bumped into the base's GM pilots and a young boy and they saluted Solari before they left to battle the infiltrators.[4] The duo soon discovered a GM abandoned at a bridge an with Arhun fought off the EFF in a gun fight, Solari was able to activate the GM and rushed toward the Gundam EX who was trying to finish off Zydos and his stolen GM. The GM-jack operation ended in failure with the Gundam EX defeated Solari's GM and the loss of LeSean who sacrificed his life to rescue his captain.
Arhun and the escaped infiltrators were able to locate the unconscious Solari at a nearly stream and picked by Maj. Ronet's convoy in time for evacuation to Odessa spaceport to board the remaining HLVs back to Space.[12] With Dr Kasuga's help, Solari was resuscitated and bought back to life. As Solari volunteered to join the Odessa defense force to repel EFF's bombardment to the spaceport, Arhun and co. bided farewell to the Red Wolf captain and the UMRC doctor as they boarded the last HLV and return to Space safely.[12]
