HADES (short for HYPER ANIMOSITY DETECT ESTIMATE SYSTEM) was a specialized system introduced in Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Missing Link. It was intended to replicate the effects of the EXAM System in granting the pilot Newtype like abilities. It was developed by the Augusta Lab using the EXAM data.
Description & Characteristics[]
Unlike the EXAM where it utilizes a Newtype soul to function, HADES instead overclocks the pilot's brain neurotransmission to match the reflexes of the Newtype. Because of this, pilots with enhancements are needed to operate the HADES in order to combat the side effects given by HADES, the procedure to create them however do have it's own side effects (loss of memory, shortened lifespan, inability to digest food, etc.). HADES can also take over the Mobile Suit's control if the system deems the interventions are needed and just like the EXAM system, the Mobile Suit sensors will glow red with an addition of vents glowing orange due to forced venting of the gas. The HADES can also be used to assist in operation of weaponry like INCOMs and Sub-Arms sometimes independently from the the pilot.
While this is going on, 3 additional systems are developed to further fine-tune the HADES. Those include :
- ZEUS - A Fire control system installed in RX-80WR White Rider. Used in conjunction with the Mega Beam Launcher on the Shekinah.
- THEMIS - A simplified HADES system installed in RX-80BR Black Rider. Has the basic functions like HADES. The similar system would also be installed in RX-80PR-2 Pale Rider Cavalry
- ARES - A system installed in RX-80RR Red Rider. Upon activation via voice command or vice versa, the performance of the suit will increase to 150% for 5 minutes but this puts a very heavy load on the pilot. Should the pilot heartbeat stops, the "Rymm-va" system will activate commencing the shock resuscitation to revive the pilot. It also acts as the AI capable of calculations and speech.
History[]
Development[]
Looking to replicate the effects of the EXAM system, the Augusta Lab requisitioned in EXAM system's data in order to create HADES. It was by this time that officer named Grave took interest in the project and acquired the HADES system in order to launch his own Pale Rider Project which produced three prototypes (White Rider, Red Rider and Black Rider) to collect data and further develop the final product, the RX-80PR Pale Rider. Due to the potentially lethal side effects of the HADES system, there are not many willing to test out the HADES system. Grave decided that the best place to look for the some of the test pilots were the war orphans whose families were lost in the Operation British. These war orphans were then subjected to inhumane and lethal experiments in order to combat the HADES side effects.
With the project done, Grave would use the Pale Rider to conduct Black Ops Mission in various places to further consolidate his own position. At this time, there were rumors of a red eyed GM engaging friend and foe alike.
First Appearance[]
At Jaburo, Grave sent out the Slave Wraith, a black ops squad consisting of criminals to Patrol the surrounding area. The real reason of this arrangement however, is to eliminate the Slave Wraith altogether since they were no longer of use to Grave. When the Wraiths were engaging the Zeon forces, their intel gatherer Doris Brand notifies the squad of the unknown machine. The Pale Rider with its eyes glowing red then descends from the cliff attacking nearby Zeon forces and later the Wraiths. Against all odds however, the Wraiths managed to drive Pale Rider back. The Pale Rider however would track them down to South America, still it would fail to take out the Wraiths as they escaped.
Moving to Space[]
As Zeon forces began retreating into Space, the Pale Rider would also be transported into space to participate in the coming battles. During the battle of A Baoa Qu, it would met and engage the Marchosias Corps which they already met at Jaburo. This time however, with the coordination of the entire squad, the Marchosias finally took down the Pale Rider but not without losing 3/4 of the squad. The leader and the only survivor of the battle Vincent Gleissner captured the Pale Rider and subsequently the HADES system but not before learning that the pilot of the Pale Rider, Chloe Croce, was just a child.
Usage in Newborn Neo Zeon[]
During the U.C 0090. The Pale Rider would be upgraded into AMX-018[HADES] Todesritter. While the weapons and the base design were overhauled to accommodate more modern weaponry, the HADES itself was left untouched. Joining the Newborn Neo Zeon, the Todesritter would be asked with wiping out the remnants of Glemy faction alongside Vincent's AMS-119 Geara Doga.
During these engagements however, HADES was shown to be unstable, engaging units without the pilot's input. This effect would be put in full light when the Todesritter engaged Annerose Rosenheim's NZ-000 Queen Mansa with its pilot being unable to control the Todesritter at all which would finally result in both MS destruction finally destroying HADES.

Notes & Trivia[]
- In the Manga adaptation of Missing Link, Chloe and Travis can be seen wearing a specialized helmet that connects directly to the MS presumably to make HADES take effect.
- HADES seems to have the ability to sense incoming danger such as when Pale Rider Cavalry engaged HADES to dodge shots coming from Big Zam.
- Although there is a theory that HADES and EXAM are used to develop the NT-D System, it is unconfirmed if it is true or not.
