Gyunei Guss is a fictional character from the movie Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack. Like some of the other characters from Zeta Gundam, Gyunei is a Cyber Newtype, albeit more stable than Four Murasame and Rosamia Badam and more powerful than Gates Capa. However, he is also a bit ambitious and overconfident, which makes him a somewhat ambivalent figure in the story.
Char's Counter Attack
Gyunei serves as a bodyguard and wingman for Char Aznable, who by this time has become the leader of the Neo-Zeon movement. He is first seen engaging Amuro Ray with his Jagd Doga just as Char is preparing to drop the Fifth Luna asteroid onto Earth. Despite his artificially enhanced abilities, Gyunei is no match for the more experienced Amuro thus prompting Char to intervene. Together they drive off Amuro and the rest of Londo Bell allowing the asteroid to strike the Earth Federation headquarters at Lhasa.
Gyunei is later seen piloting a Hobby Hizack, which he uses to help train Quess Paraya, who had just defected from the Earth Federation. He quickly develops an interest in Quess, but she merely scorns all of his attempts to get closer to her saying that she is in love with Char.
Later in battle, Gyunei uses the funnels of his Jagd Doga to successfully destroy a full nuclear barrage intended to prevent Char from dropping the Axis asteroid onto Earth. He also takes Londo Bell pilot Kayra Su hostage and kills her when Amuro Ray refuses to hand over Nu Gundam in exchange, forcing Gyunei to retreat.
Despite this setback, Gyunei is still proud of the fact that he stopped the nuclear barrage and his ego is blown to the point that he no longer follows Char wholeheartedly. He tells Quess that Char doesn't really love her and that he only goes out with Nanai Miguel in order to keep up appearances as the leader of Neo-Zeon. Gyunei adds that Char may be into young girls, but his one true love was Lalah Sune, whom he lost during the One-Year War. Quess slaps Gyunei and vows to kick Lalah and Nanai out of Char's life forever, which makes Gyunei more determined to outdo Char. However, Char tells Gyunei that he has no interest in Quess and cares only for Nanai.
Gyunei and Quess later go out into battle together and confront Amuro in the Nu Gundam, but Amuro gets the better of them both with his funnels and kills Gyunei with a direct shot from his beam rifle.
