Gundam War Nex-A (ガンダムウォーネグザ?), known more informally as Nex-A, is a collectible card game based on the Gundam anime franchise published by Bandai's Cardass division. It is a direct sequel to their previous Gundam War card game, which had ended production five months earlier and became known as old GW (旧GW?) among players and collectors to differentiate them from the new Nex-A cards.
Gundam War Nex-A was first released in Japan in autumn of 2011. Nex-A's release was intended to coincide with the release of Mobile Suit Gundam AGE, and the first booster was heavily AGE-themed. However flavor text on the Zedas card contained spoilers for series, causing the release to be postponed. In the run-up to the game's release Bandai had alluded multiple times that some cards from the former Gundam War game would remain playable in Nex-A to help alleviate the game's initially shallow cardpool, however players would find out later that they would be at great disadvantage if they did so, which caused the after-market prices of old GW cards to plummet and left players and hobby shop sellers who had still supported old GW angered. In 2013, all old GW cards were banned from competitive play, effectively ending their use. Nex-A would run for five years until official support ended on January 31, 2017.
