Gundam Network Operation (ガンダムネットワークオペレーション Gandamunettowākuoperēshon?) was a Japanese subscription-based online network strategy and logistics game released exclusively for Windows PCs, beginning service in April, 2002.
To play Gundam Network Operation, the player had to pay for a subscription with a credit card, which cost 945¥ per month. Alternately, three-month subscription cards could be bought at convenience stores for 3,150¥. An updated version, titled Gundam Network Operation 2, would begin service in September of 2004, and data transfer services were provided, however both versions would continue to run concurrently for several years. Two years later, the game's client software would be made available for free download, along with a simplified version for the Pocket PC, allowing PC players a degree of mobile play.
On July 21, 2009, it was officially announced that the game's service would be ending after over seven years, on the 30th of November, 2009, which fell shortly after the upcoming release of Gundam Network Operation 3. Data transfers to GNO3 continued until January 15, 2010. Players who played Gundam Network Operation and transferred to 3 would receive bonuses in-game, and even received a personalized "honorable discharge" mouse pad, which displayed the user's in-game data.
