Gundam Breaker 4 (ガンダムブレイカー4 Gandamu Bureikā 4?) is the sixth installment in the Gundam Breaker series by Bandai Namco, for Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC set to be released on August 29, 2024. The theme song is "ReBreak" by BACK-ON and Anna Suzuki

Gameplay[]

Gundam Breaker 4 will retain the frenetic hack and slash rogue-like gameplay of its predecessors, building on the foundation of Gundam Breaker 3, this time with a greater emphasis on fast-paced combat and combo play featuring combo ranks. Two melee and ranged weapons can now be assigned to each arm for unique weapon combos to allow a greater degree of freedom.

Combos especially play a role in both performance and part acquisition. The longer a combo lasts, the more buffs the player receives such as reduced cooldown on weapons, increased item drop rates, etc. An additional Break Combo works in tandem with the combo gauge to provide stat buffs.

The Arms, Ranged and Melee sections of customization have now been split into separate Left and Right tabs, allowing players to include a level of asymmetry to their builds. Two-handed swords are exempt from this and will take up both slots.

Returning from Gundam Breaker 3 is Optional and Builder Part functionality, once more expanding the Gunpla's weaponry and abilities. Instead of a simple button press, Optional equipment (Referred to as OP Skills) is now activated in the same manner as EX Skills from previous games. In lieu of individual cooldowns, all EX Skills draw from the EX Gauge. These use a set amount of bars depending on their strength and can be used so long as enough bars are available, allowing them to be used more frequently.

Customization has been further expanded with additional texture and pattern options, including being able to apply LED/glow textures to any part of the Gunpla. Furthermore, parts can now have their size and position adjusted as well as being able to toggle off aspects or Components of certain parts such as being able to remove an MS-07B-3 Gouf Custom's shoulder spikes or an RX-78's V-fin, allowing for greater personalization of individual parts.

The Merge mechanic from Gundam Breaker 3 has been further streamlined into Synthesize. Synthesizing parts together still allows for cannibalization of abilities. Rarity upgrade is now done through the Parts Evolve plastic items. Parts upgraded to a five star will not only have their abilities automatically maxed out, but any EX Skills assigned to that part will become Mastered EX Skills, allowing them to be used on any build. Doing so however briefly transforms the associated body part into a digital silhouette of the original part.

After Chapter 6, the Ability Cartridge system is unlocked, providing additional internal stat alterations such as attack potency, hate generation, speed, etc.

Breaker Boosters, which were originally a DLC-purchase exclusive item that increased drop rates is now available as an S-Rank reward, allowing for far easier acquisition of parts.

A new Diorama mode has been added in place of Photograph, which allows for more customization in posing Gunpla. This not only includes more poses and the ability to adjust positions frame-by-frame but also allows the player to include other Gunpla into the image as well as other effects such as beam shots and explosions. To this end, the backgrounds are now fully 3D rendered environments as opposed to backdrop images from the previous games.

A new Practice Mode has been added, allowing players to test their builds before participating in a mission.

Story[]

The game's story is set six years after the events of Gundam Breaker 3. The original Gunpla Battle Simulator has since evolved and made its way from the arcade scene to home devices as Gunpla Battle Blaze: Beyond Borders (GBBBB, or GB4 for short). The player takes on the role of a newcomer participating in an open beta test of the game alongside their formed clan, consisting of a young newcomer named Tao who specializes in SD gunpla and Lin, a straightforward, aggressive fighter. During the story, the player's reputation will grow and begin to attract the attention of seasoned players. They will also meet veteran players from previous games such as Ryusei Fudou and an older Misa Satsukino.
