Guin Sard Lineford (グエン・サード・ラインフォード) is a fictional character from ∀ Gundam television series.

Personality & Character[]

Guin Sard Lineford is a charming young nobleman. He comes across as a nice person, but is actually very calculating and motivated by personal ambition rather than the welfare of his people. Though he seems to be dedicated to brokering a peaceful agreement between the Terrans and the Moonrace, he aspires to take as much from them as he can in the process in order to make more profit for himself.

He is also rather manipulative, using Sochie's hatred to incite her into piloting the White Doll. He seems to be good at reading people too, as he quickly understood that Loran would be honest about everything else in order to hide his secret. Despite this, his own opinion about himself blinds him to the obvious. When Nocis City was in danger, he tried to purchase a horse from a fleeing civilian using his authority as the ruler of Inglessa but is promptly knocked aside. He can also be quite naïve, thinking he would convince Loran to follow him after he betrayed Dianna.

History[]

Guin Sard Lineford rules the principality of Inglessa. He seems dedicated to brokering a peaceful agreement between the Terrans and the Moonrace, and to building up the Militia in case those talks fall through.

His right hand man, Miachel Gern, eventually tires of the statement and breaks the ceasfire. This ends up with his base of power, Nocis City, being destroyed. He then meets up with the Luziannan princess Lily Borjarno to retain his influence after the fall of Inglessa. He masterminds the Terrans' journey into space to negotiate with the Moonrace.

He eventually betrays Dianna and Loran while making a Faustian pact with Gym Ghingham to try and secure Moonrace technology for his own gain. His treacherous lust for power ultimately brings about his downfall. Gym's defeat forces him into exile, and Lily Borjarno takes the place he wanted forming diplomatic relations with the Moonrace and ushering in a new industrial age.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Guin was one of the first homosexual male characters in the Gundam franchise. The second was Yamagi Gilmerton.
  • Earlier drafts included a more pronounced depiction of Guin's homosexuality. Some crew members protested his sexuality and Tomino got into heated arguments with them, leading some to quit over it.
