Guardian Banchi is a space colony featured in the Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin and its OVA adaptation.
Overview[]
An enclosed-type colony located in Side 3, the Guardian Banchi was home to the Autonomous Republic of Zeon's Space Defense Military Academy, as well as the Earth Federation Forces garrison barracks.[1] It also featured large sections of training areas for conducting training exercises and mock battles.[2]
History[]
In U.C. 0074, Casval Rem Deikun, adopting the identity of Char Aznable, enrolled at the academy. Among his classmates was Garma Zabi, the youngest child of the Zabi family.[2]
In U.C. 0077, a Federation Salamis-class cruiser, ignoring docking instructions, crashed into an agricultural block, destroying it and resulting in numerous civilian casualties. This sparked a riot in Side 3, and the Federation garrison responded with deadly force. In order to stop the Federation garrison at Guardian Banchi from mobilizing to quell the riot, Garma, at the instigation of Char, decided to lead his fellow students to launch an attack on the Federation garrison.[2]
Under Garma's command, around 200 cadets at the Military Academy launched a surprise attack on the EFF barracks at dawn, forcing them to lay down arms. This incident would later be known as the Dawn Rebellion.[2] In the aftermath of the rebellion, Garma was hailed as a hero by the people of Zeon, and Degwin Sodo Zabi pressured the Earth Federation Forces into withdrawing from Side 3.[3]
