Gryps is a location introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam.

Overview

Gryps was unique as a colony as it was technically two colonies connected to each other after being relocated to Side 7. Following the Titans establishing the colony as their base it became the most advanced military base in the Earth Sphere at the time, housing several development and construction facilities for ships and mobile suits.

History

Originally known as Green Noa 2, it was moved from Side 3 to the Side 7 colony cluster in U.C. 0085. Not long after it became the space headquarters for the Earth Federation's elite special forces group, the Titans. After taking control of the colony, the Titans established several manufacturing installations to expand their forces and monopolized the colony’s facilities to maintain their space fleet.

Gryps Conflict

On March 2, U.C. 0087, a small A.E.U.G. squad led by Quattro Bajeena was dispatched to infiltrate and obtain the new RX-178 Gundam Mk-II from the Titans, marking the start of the Gryps Conflict. After infiltrating the colony, the three Rick Dias mobile suits encountered minor resistance from several RMS-179 GM IIs, but quickly destroyed them before reaching the testing facility. Once there, the three machines moved to capture one of the Gundam Mk-II units and received unexpected help from the civilian Kamille Biden, who had seized one of the Mk-II units for himself. After obtaining the suit, the Rick Dias Team and Kamille exited the colony and returned to the A.E.U.G. flagship, the Argama.

Mid-way through the Gryps Conflict, Gryps was split into two separated colonies, Gryps 1 and Gryps 2, with Gryps 2 being converted into a colony laser.
