The Graveyard is a satellite introduced in the manga Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray R.
Overview[]
The Graveyard is a satellite within the Debris Belt, cobbled together from the remains of various spaceships and space stations within the belt. It was inhabited by a community of craftsmen who practiced mostly forgotten arts.
History[]
The Graveyard was created when numerous masters of ancient arts who found that their skills were becoming obsolete chose to migrate from Earth, congregating at a satellite to live out their last days in peace. As they intended to grow old and die there, the satellite was named Graveyard. However, the Graveyard drew in curious people who heard of its existence, and sought to plunder the Graveyard for its secrets. The inhabitants were forced to wage war against these thieves, and with each master's death they took their skills with them, which was recorded on their graves as proof of their existence. Eventually, only Un'no and his pet dog Denpachi remained, watching over the graves of the other artisans who spent their final days there and acting as defenders of all of the crafting knowledge of bygone eras.
First Alliance-PLANT War[]
Six months before meeting the Junk Guild team led by The Professor, Un'no's katana, the Gerbera Straight, was badly damaged while fending off a ZAFT attack. With the great masters dead, there was no one to repair it, so Un'no planted it with the graves of his comrades.
When Lowe Guele and his friends arrived at the Graveyard looking for the Gerbera Straight, Un'no, thinking they're simply more thieves, attacked them before driving them into a series of traps. However, after seeing Lowe Guele try to solve the puzzle he'd left instead of simply destroying it, Un'no realized they weren't thieves like the others who'd come before. After showing them the damaged Gerbera Straight, Lowe told Un'no that he'll simply fix it and also asked Un'no for his tutelage in swordsmanship. Despite Un'no's reluctance, Lowe's insistence was able to convince him to let Lowe try.[1]
In the middle of Lowe's training, a pirate crew led by a woman named Portia searched the Graveyard area for valuables. They encountered Un'no but Portia was able to trick him into thinking they're harmless. Due to a misunderstanding, the pirates thought Denpachi could pilot mobile suits and attempted to kidnap him, only to be stopped by Un'no and Lowe, with the latter in his MBF-P02 Gundam Astray Red Frame and wielding an incompletely restored Gerbera Straight, causing the pirates to leave emptyhanded.[2]
As Lowe was finishing the restoration of the Gerbera Straight, mercenaries who were led to the Graveyard by Kenaf Luchini were able to capture Kisato and use her as a hostage in exchange for the Red Frame. Instead, Lowe used the restored Gerbera Straight to free Kisato and defeat the mercenaries.[3]
