The Gibraltar Base is a ZAFT military facility located in Gibraltar, Iberia.

Overview

After defeating the Eurasian Federation Fleet in the First Battle of Casablanca on May 25, C.E. 70, ZAFT built the Gibraltar base at the southernmost tip of the Iberian Peninsula overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar. Since then, it became an important base for ZAFT as a bridgehead for the invasion of Europe and Africa.

History

First Alliance-PLANT War

In C.E. 71, Yzak Joule and Dearka Elsman, who had descended to Earth as a result of the Battle of Low Orbit, stayed at the base for a while. The base also supplied Andrew Waltfeld's unit with the TFA-2 ZuOOT. During the Battle of Alaska Base on May 5, C.E. 71, a large number of troops were sent to Alaska. However, it lost most of its forces due to the Cyclops that had been set up beforehand. In order to supplement its forces in the Battle of Panama immediately after, the African Front was reduced, and a large number of troops from the base had to be brought in.

With the mass production of Earth Alliance MS on track and the war situation gradually worsening, UMF-4A GOOhN and UMF-5 ZnO units suffered a heavy defeat at the Second Battle of Casablanca on July 24, C.E. 71, against GAT-X255 Forbidden Blue and GAT-706S Deep Forbidden units, which resulted in ZAFT abandoning the base. Forced to withdraw from the European area, the Earth Front shifted to the Carpentaria area. Under the Junius Treaty which was concluded after the Second Battle of Jachin Due, the Gibraltar base, together with the Carpentaria base, was to be used as a permanent base for ZAFT's treaty monitoring mission and as a diplomatic mission on Earth. In accordance with this, the base was handed over to the PLANT government in exchange for the ZAFT-occupied Kaohsiung base in the Republic of East Asia.

Second Alliance-PLANT War

In C.E. 73, it became the base for the attack on the Suez base and a rallying point for the ZAFT and Anti-Logos Alliance forces to attack Heaven's Base, where Lord Djibril and other Logos members were holed up. Prior to the planned attack, an incident occurred due to the desertion of FAITH member Athrun Zala and, the LHM-BB01 Minerva's CIC officer Meyrin Hawke.
