Geschmeidig Panzer is an energy deflection technology introduced in the anime Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.

Technological Overview

The Geschmeidig Panzer system utilized a colloid gas (similar to Mirage Colloid) composed of special beam-deflecting particles that are held in place by powerful magnetic fields to repel and redirect energy beams. The system can also counteract water pressure and deflect water. Thus, it was also used as an underwater propulsion system.

History

The first mobile suit equipped with the Geschmeidig Panzer was the GAT-X252 Forbidden Gundam. Subsequently, the Earth Alliance began to develop a series of amphibious mobile suits equipped with the Geschmeidig Panzer. The first mobile suit in this series was the GAT-X255 Forbidden Blue. However, it was discovered that in deep sea, power failure could deactivate the Geschmeidig Panzer system and Trans-Phase armor, causing the mobile suit to be crushed by the water pressure. This flaw was corrected in the Forbidden Blue's successors, the mass-produced GAT-706S Deep Forbidden and the GAT-707E Forbidden Vortex, which were equipped with pressure-resistant titanium alloy shell around the cockpit to protect their pilot.

During the Second Alliance-PLANT War, the Earth Alliance used the Geschmeidig Panzer technology as a means to direct the energy beam of the Requiem superweapon to attack the PLANT Colonies. By C.E. 75, the Kingdom of Foundation had acquired the Geschmeidig Panzer technology and installed it in the NOG-M2D1/E Black Knight Squad Cal-re.A's three AMO-01 Ziggurat support crafts.
