The Gendarme is a space battleship from ∀ Gundam.
Technology & Combat Characteristics[]
The Gendarme is a spacecraft under the command of the Ghingham military,[1][2] and is operated by Meme Midgard under the secret orders of Agrippa Maintainer, the de facto administrator of the Moon[3]. It was sent to Earth by Agrippa to transport Dianna Soriel to the Moon.[4] After abducting Dianna, it heads for the Moon via the Sackträger.[3] Its name is thought to derive from an ancient term once used in the region now known as Gaul, meaning “military police.” Historically, gendarmes were soldiers responsible for policing within the army and cracking down on illegal acts committed by military personnel. From this, it is inferred that in the old era when the ship was built, it may have been used by the military police (gendarmerie).[3][4]
Despite its large size, the Gendarme is equipped with a very high-output propulsion system that allows for high speed.[5] The Field Drive System at the rear of the ship is optional equipment,[5] and its armament includes high-output Mega-Particle Cannons mounted on the upper hull [3][5] The bridge is located in the upper section, and unlike the Willghem, the Gendarme features an aeronautical layout, with the bridge positioned toward the front.[2][3] The area surrounding the bridge functions as an escape shuttle.[2] The hangar at the rear of the ship is large enough not only for shuttlecraft but also for loading several MS units, and it also includes maintenance functions.[4] Like the Soleil, the Gendarme’s bridge section is capable of separating, and the wing-like parts attached at the back can be removed one by one.[4]
Within the atmosphere, the ship releases a distinctive "feather mantle" (羽衣 Hagoromo?) outside the hull and flies using an I-Field effect, demonstrating high performance that allows it to reach orbit independently.[1] Earth witnesses who once saw the ship referred to it as the "Feather Mantle Ship" (羽衣の船 Hagoromo no Fune?), and it became a legend.[1][2]

- The Gendarme is equipped with Mega-particle Cannons on both sides of its upper hull. They were standard optical weapons of the old era.[3]
- Missile Launcher
- The Gendarme features a ventral missile launcher, though the total number of launchers installed is unknown.
History[]
The Gendarme was initially dispatched by Agrippa Maintainer and operated by Meme Midgard when Agrippa launched a covert coup to depose Dianna Soriel. Acting under Agrippa's orders, Dianna was kidnapped and transferred to the Gendarme. The ship then launched from Earth using the mass driver at Maniupich, bound for the Sackträger. Harry Ord attempted to reach Dianna before departure but failed, and the Willghem followed the Gendarme toward the Sackträger. After a tense standoff aboard Sackträger that was eventually resolved, both the Gendarme and the Willghem departed the orbital elevator and continued toward the Moon.
During unrest on the Moon, riots broke out in Genganam after Dianna broadcast archives revealing the Dark History and the ∀’s destruction of Earth’s prior civilization using the Moonlight Butterfly. As chaos spread in Genganam, Harry and Sochie Heim defended the Winter Palace and the Willghem from a reckless attack by Sweatson Stero. Later, Meme arrived aboard the Gendarme and launched an assault, prompting Loran to activate the ∀’s Moonlight Butterfly. ∀ then pushed the Gendarme back. Terrified at the sight of the ∀, Meme panicked and opened the Gendarme’s hatch. Harry closed in with his Gold SUMO and crushed the open hatch along with Meme in a sweeping blow.
