History[]
Diversionary Attack in Davao[]
Gawman Nobile, piloting a Me02R-F01 Messer Type-F01, thought Kimberley's forces would arrive late. Though Fencer Mayne and Civet spoke word about the enemy's new commander and model, respectively, this did not faze Gawman, seeing as the enemy were careless enough to leave seven cabinet ministers sleeping in Davao. Regardless, Civet ordered Gawman to withdraw after 10 minutes without exception. As Gawman's Messer Type-F01 launched, Civet told him that the interval was 180 seconds but the communications cut off after Civet mentioned Hathaway. Gawman then took aim at the Regent Hotel and gave his condolences to the souls of those who were to get caught in the crossfire. Afterwards, Gawman landed his Messer Type-F01 in some trees [2].
Gawman saw the Kimberley Unit's mobile suits regrouping in the distance, barely making out Fencer's mobile suit. Gawman's Messer Type-F01 now aimed its Long Beam Rifle at the 43rd floor of the Tasaday Hotel where Hathaway was staying. Gawman continued to do battle with Gustav Karl Type-00 mobile suits. After dodging a grenade launched by a Gustav Karl Type-00, Gawman thought the enemy were insane for using it near a populated area. He was caught off-guard as the Penelope flew past and gunfire from it caused him to lose his Long Beam Rifle. Emerelda bore witness as the Long Beam Rifle planted itself into the road. Gawman, barely armed, tried to avoid fire from a persistent Gustav Karl Type-00 but began a descent when it damaged the left thruster on the back of his Messer Type-F01 [2].
In a park, Gawman's Messer Type-F01 landed near Hathaway, Gigi and Emerelda. Hathaway embraced Gigi as he witnessed the two Gustav Karl Type-00 mobile suits disable Gawman's Messer Type-F01. After Federation soldiers secured the area, Gawman exited his Messer Type-F01. Gawman looked directly at Hathaway while being taken prisoner with Kenneth promising Hathaway that he'll take his time interrogating Gawman [2].
When Gawman's comrades got back to their base, Hathaway apologized to Civet for what happened to him. Iram suggested planning a rescue operation [2].
When Kenneth got round to interrogating Gawman, he stressed that it would be too dangerous for him to know everything, thus Kenneth moved the topic to Hathaway, whom Kenneth believed was the real Mafty. He admitted that Hathaway played the role of Mafty Erin, which lead Kenneth to conclude that someone else must have been pulling the strings. Kenneth threatened to set up him as Mafty and execute him should he not confess, but he had nothing more than rumours. He joked that Mafty might be the ghost of Char Aznable, prompting Kenneth to slam his head onto the metal table. He rolled on the floor with his nose in pain. Kenneth picked up the chair he was sitting in and knocked him unconscious [2].
Penelope vs. Ξ Gundam[]
Gawman later awoke in the cockpit of the Penelope. Lieutenant Lane Aim introduced himself and explained that Captain Kenneth said to use Gawman as a hostage, wanting Lane to use Gawman as a shield if things went south, causing Gawman to be outraged at how lowly they stooped. Lane disagreed and retorted that, unlike Mafty's indiscriminate terrorist attacks, only one life will be lost… Gawman's. But that was not his style so he guaranteed Gawman's safety as long as he could fight in the Penelope [2].
Lane and Gawman saw the Xi Gundam climbing out of Cargo Pisa so the Penelope fired two simultaneous shots from its shoulder-mounted Mega Particle Cannons, but to Lane's surprise, the Xi Gundam dodged them. Gawman explained to Lane that even Mafty could get hold of a Gundam. Gawman told Lane to ascend after more of the Xi Gundam and Penelope's shots both miss each other [2]
Upon clashing their beam sabers, Lane opened a communications channel to Hathaway, allowing him to hear Gawman's warning to get back. Hathaway wondered if Gawman had turned traitor or if he was being used as a shield. Lane eventually allowed Gawman to return to Mafty, dropping him from the Penelope into the Xi Gundam's cockpit [2]
In the battle's aftermath, Gaman returned to the Valiant to recover, grateful for Hathaway's hit-and-run attack [2]
