History[]

Early Life[]

The youngest son of Degwin Sodo Zabi, Garma was a child when Degwin's close friend and activist Zeon Zum Deikun passed away due to a sudden heart attack. During the funeral procession, however, Garma would be riding with his sister, Kycilia, when a bomb blew up the car of their brothers Dozle, and Sasro, killing the latter. Although traumatized by this, Kycilia scolds Garma for breaking down in tears following their brother's death.

Hoping to earn some glory for himself, Garma joins Side 3's military academy, but is shown up by fellow recruit, Char Aznable. Garma initially attempts to bully and pressure Char, but Char easily subdues Garma's henchmen and tells Garma to reach the top on his own power. Despite Garma's attempts at academics and athletics, he would always find himself second only to Char. During their loaded march exercise, Char and Garma would reach the first checkpoint, but a sudden downpour forces the two to stop near each other for a break. Once the rain stops, Garma notices that Char has fallen asleep, and attempts to take the lead but falls down a ditch instead. He is found by Char, and he vehemently refuses to accept his rival's aid, stating that his pride compelled him to work on his own talents. Regardless, Char helps Garma, and the pair are able to complete the rest of the course together. Because of his newfound respect for Char, Garma arranges the rooms, so that he will take over Lino Fernandez's spot as Char's roommate, though Char comments that Garma was rather spoiled for doing something so petty.

During their second year, Garma, Char, and the other cadets were tested in a mock battle where they were placed at a disadvantage. Nonetheless, the cadets are able to prevail thanks to a series of ambushes on the instructors' bases. During the assembly by the Federation's instructors, however, Char openly questions the Federation officer if the cadets were placed in a disadvantage as a realistic test, or to drive in the inferiority of the spacenoids. Rather than answer Char, the officer slaps him, which leads to a massive outcry from the cadets. Garma would step up to defend his friend, stating that the instructor was in the wrong, and demanded he return Char's sunglasses back to him.

Dawn Rebellion[]

In his third year, Side 3 would suffer an accident where a Federation cruiser clashed with a local transport ship, causing the latter to lose control and crash into an agricultural block. Riots soon erupted as the public turned against the Federation after learning that the cruiser's captain had ignored traffic control's orders to give way to the transport ship. As a result of the anarchy, the Federation sent in several military forces to quell the chaos. Garma, and the other third year cadets where discontent with how violent the Federation was dispersing the civilians. On one night, Garma would be approached by Char, who would ask his friend to lead their raid on the Federation barracks and help the citizens of Side 3.

Though initially reluctant to get into trouble, Char's encouragement, and the possibility of making his family proud pushes Garma to take the role of leader. The third year cadets would eventually sneak out while Dozle was distracted by Zenna Mia, and successfully attacked the base. By dawn of the next day, Dozle arrived to control the cadets, only to find Garma and the others already victorious. For their help, Garma and the surviving cadets would be paraded across Zum City, much to the frustration of the Federation, which demanded Degwin to surrender Garma. Degwin would make a compromise with Admiral Johann Ibrahim Revil to dismiss Dozle from his position and to expel Garma's second-in-command, Char, as a way to placate the Federation.

One Year War[]

As tensions flared between both the Federation and the Principality of Zeon, Garma would make increasing requests to join the fighting with his siblings. During the Battle of Loum, Garma was with his father as they oversaw the battle's progress. Initially, when Revil's fleet was ambushed by Zeon's new MS-06 Zaku II teams and Dozle's fleet, Garma assumed victory, but Degwin corrected his son as Tianem could easily take Zeon itself while all its forces were fighting Revil. When Tianem foregoes victory to rescue the remnants of Revil's fleet, Garma begins celebrating, only for Degwin to correct his son a second time, stating that there was nothing glorious about war.

During the Antarctic Treaty, which saw Revil escape his confinement to rally the Federation's leaders, Garma would get his wish and was assigned to lead Zeon's ground forces on Earth. Garma would see heavy fighting but eventually succeeded in establishing a foothold in North America, and would base himself in Hollywood, California as he sent several messages back to his father. Garma's battle against the Federation would make a new turn as he was informed that the Federation's new warship, the White Base had accidentally landed on his doorstep and was heading towards Jaburo. Garma intercepted the large vessel, but he was forced to retreat after his fighter's wing was damaged by the White Base's ace unit, the RX-78-02 Gundam.

Battle of Los Angeles and Death[]

After this initial defeat, Garma would rejoin Char as the latter would handle negotiations with the enemy ship as it requested for a ceasefire to unload its refugees. Garma would learn too late that Char had attacked the ship while its units where busy helping the refugees and missed a golden opportunity to help Char eliminate the ship. Despite this, Garma attends a party with the local higher-ups when he is informed by Char of the ship's movements near Los Angeles.

Char would volunteer to drop down and scout the Federation forces on the ground, before instructing Garma to press forward towards the Gundam's location. Much to his shock, however, Garma finds himself being attacked from behind by both the White Base and all its other units. While attempting to control his doomed situation, Char contacts Garma, revealing that he had set his friend up, and that Garma was unlucky to have been born a Zabi. Enraged by this, Garma manages to turn his ship around and makes a last ditch attempt to destroy the White Base with a kamikaze attack, but his ship is destroyed before he can even reach his target.

Garma would receive a nationwide funeral led by his oldest brother, Gihren, who uses Garma's death as a rallying tool against the Federation. Degwin would be dealt a severe emotional blow by Garma's demise, and would begin questioning their own chances against the Federation. After his death, Garma's leadership over Zeon's Earth forces would be handed to Kycilia's lieutenant, M'Quve.
