The Garden of Thorns was the headquarters of the Delaz Fleet. It was located in the shoal zone of former Side 5, concealed from the Earth Federation Forces by the high concentration of space debris. It had facilities to repair and resupply ships, as well as mobile suit development and production capabilities.[1]
History[]
In January, U.C. 0080, two weeks after the Republic of Zeon and the Earth Federation Forces signed the Granada Treaty, the Delaz Fleet decided to remain in the Earth Sphere and continue fighting against the Federation.[2] In March, U.C. 0080, the Delaz Fleet relocated to the shoal zone, where they constructed the Garden of Thorns[3] using asteroids, ship wrecks, and a destroyed space colony.[1][4]
In December, U.C. 0082, the Delaz Fleet began planning the development and production of mobile suits using the Garden of Thorns' factory. By May, U.C. 0083, the Garden of Thorns began producing the MS-21C Dra-C,[5] a mobile suit independently developed by the Delaz Fleet.[1]
On October 31, U.C. 0083,[5] Anavel Gato returned to the Garden of Thorns aboard the Peer Gynt, having successfully stolen the RX-78GP02A Gundam "Physalis". Aiguille Delaz met Gato and Cima Garahau in the Garden of Thorns' throne room.[6] On November 10,[7] Delaz departed the Garden of Thorns with his fleet to defend the hijacked colony Island Ease.[8] As the Delaz Fleet was almost completely destroyed in the ensuing battle, with the few survivors escaping to Axis, the Garden of Thorns was essentially abandoned.[9]
Following the near total destruction of the Delaz Fleet, the location of the Garden of Thorns was assumed lost. However, after O'Sullivan's apparent suicide, Anaheim Electronics recovered the Garden of Thorns' coordinates from his personal effects. They then took control of the base and turned it into a top secret development facility.[10] During the Gryps War, Axis sent a force reconnaissance unit to search for the Garden of Thorns, but the unit was destroyed after an encounter with the AEUG's Boyd Team.[11]
