GENESIS (Gamma Emission by Nuclear Explosion Stimulate Inducing System) is a powerful superweapon in the Cosmic Era timeline. Over time, three different versions of the weapons appeared.

Technical Informations

GENESIS is a huge gamma ray cannon which uses multiple nuclear devices with Neutron Jammer Cancellers to produce a massive burst of gamma radiation, which is reflected back by an external alignment mirror and focused by a second mirror into a laser beam. This laser is sufficiently powerful that if it were to hit Earth, a great part of the surface would be destroyed and nearly all life on the planet would be exterminated. It causes human bodies closest to the shot to inflate and explode. The external mirror is severely damaged in the blast and must be replaced for another shot to be fired. The original GENESIS as well as GENESIS Alpha were also protected by multiple layers of Phase Shift armor, capable of even withstanding a hit from a Positron Blaster Cannon and could be concealed by Mirage Colloid.

The third GENESIS unit, Neo-GENESIS, has the most notable feature: it's the only unit out of the three deployed models that does not require its mirror to be replaced, thus making it able to fire more rapidly than its predecessors. Also; Neo-GENESIS is a power-saver, with the ability to fire multiple shots that only consumes half the energy charged on the unit's battery supply system; but still it needs to be recharged beforehand. Due to the lack of mirror blocks to be used by the Neo-GENESIS and since the Mobile Space Fortress Messiah is literally- 'mobile'; Neo-GENESIS is designed to be a versatile and fast acting battery/weapon. Thus earning the title of being the only unit that has the ability to fire two shots using half of the charged energy on its battery supply, while firing its shots using a single mirror block without replacement. Thus; Neo-GENESIS is more of a danger to any enemy troops due to its fast-acting, versatile repositioning ability (it depends on the "chairman's" orders of 'make target' and the fast acting CIC Officers assigned to change the path of either the Messiah itself or the designated target point of the cannon ) for better effect on the battlefield whilst firing at a much faster rate than earlier types. However it is not as powerful as the other two units due to its smaller size (and to accept the fact that it cannot destroy Earth- if targetted like what the Ex-PLANTs Chairman Patrick Zala intends to do with the first generation GENESIS unit), but nevertheless; powerful enough to destroy a fleet with a single shot (Note: Though it can destroy a small, half or if lucky; an entire fleet; fast acting/evading ships (i.e: Archangel, Eternal, Minerva, Kusanagi, etc.)can easily get off the course of the line of fire. In addition, it is still unclear if Neo-GENESIS was protected by either Phase Shift or Variable Phase Shift Armor, as it was heavily destroyed after the Mobile Space Fortress Messiah's beam shield generators were disabled by Kira/Strike Freedom+METEOR Unit and the fortress took severe barrage from the TSA Forces).

Originally GENESIS was intended to be used as a propulsion system for ships to reach far away places in the solar system. To work this way, the external mirror is removed and instead a similar mirror mounted on a ship reflects the beam. This beam would then hit the mirror of the ship and grant it great speed, allowing it to travel much faster than any other ship. This effect was so far only used once.

History

GENESIS

The original GENESIS was built under the orders of Patrick Zala as ZAFT's ultimate weapon. The weapon was stationed behind the ZAFT space fortress Jachin Due and thus protected by not only the ZAFT garrison but by the satellite itself. GENESIS was first deployed in September CE 71 after the nuclear attack of the Earth Alliance on ZAFT’s other space fortress, Boaz. With its first shot it destroyed a great part of the Alliance’s fleet and thus forcing them to retreat for a short time. On the next day, the superweapon fired its second shot on the Ptolemaeus lunar base, not only destroying it completely but also wiping out over half of the Earth Alliance reinforcements fleet. The third shot was intended by Patrick Zala to fire on Earth (the target being Washington D.C., capital of the Atlantic Federation), which would wipe out half the life on the planet but before it was able to fire, Patrick Zala was shot by one of his officers. However, a self-destruct of Jachin was triggered, threatening to fire GENESIS. Patrick's son Athrun Zala flew his ZGMF-X09A Justice inside the weapon, where he detonated his mobile suit, thus destroying GENESIS shortly before it was able to emit the destructive burst. Only a small amount of energy was emitted which destroys the badly damaged ZGMF-X13A Providence and knocking the badly damaged ZGMF-X10A Freedom almost near the Earth's orbit.

GENESIS Alpha

GENESIS Alpha was another GENESIS unit (perhaps created before the one used by Patrick Zala) which was at first under the command of ZAFT member Ash Grey. Ash used it to give his ZGMF-X11A Regenerate a boost which allows the suit to travel at very high speed. Nevertheless Ash was defeated and GENESIS Alpha was taken over by the Serpent Tail, who at first tried to destroy it but later it became the base of the Junk Guild. The Junk Guild ship ReHOME used it after the war to fly to Mars. At one point the Earth Alliance invaded GENESIS Alpha and found the ZGMF-X12A Testament in it, which they then took with them. In late CE 73, an alliance of the Junk Guild, the Serpent Tail and Rondo Mina Sahaku used GENESIS Alpha in a failed attempt to avert the "Break the World" terrorist attack by pushing the remains of Junius Seven away from Earth. However, Ash Grey, now a brainwashed Earth Alliance pilot, used the RGX-00 Testament's Mirage Colloid virus spreader to alter their targeting data, nearly causing the Junk Guild to fire GENESIS Alpha at Earth instead. While this potential disaster was averted, in a later battle Ash broke free of his brainwashing and caused GENESIS Alpha to destroy an Earth Alliance base just before committing suicide. In response, the Alliance staged a full-scale attack on GENESIS Alpha, but the Junk Guild abandoned the base and activated a self-destruct system to prevent its capture.

Neo-GENESIS

In CE 74, a third GENESIS unit was built within ZAFT's Messiah, called Neo-GENESIS. It was smaller than the other two units but still packs a lot of power. Neo-GENESIS would be fired twice, once at the Orb Fleet attacking Requiem, which destroyed about half of the fleet, and the other at the Archangel and Eternal, which instead destroyed two Nazca-class destroyers, the Marvest and the Burton, both being part of ZAFT's lunar fleet, along with the remaining EAF/TSA fleet. Neo-GENESIS, alongside the mobile fortress Messiah, were destroyed at the end of the Second Bloody Valentine War by combined efforts of Kira Yamato's ZGMF-X20A Strike Freedom+ METEOR Unit and the surviving Three Ships Alliance/TSA Forces.
