Gadem (ガデム?) is minor a character from the Mobile Suit Gundam television series. He is also the protagonist of the side story "Sworn Friend", from the manga anthology Gundam Legacy, and a close friend of MS Engineer Gordan. His career began as a co-developer of Zeon's mobile suit technology alongside his friend Gordan, flew missions as a Zaku I pilot to capture territory for Zeon from 0077 to 0078, and was transferred to the Supply Corps by January 0079.
A member of the Principality of Zeon's Supply Corps [1], he commanded a Papua-class supply ship during the One Year War [2].
History[]
Before the One Year War, in UC 0077, Captain Gadem was part of the Zeon Military Mobile Training Battalion, who piloted a Zaku I to aid revolutionary activity in Side 6, in what's said to be the first instance of MS participation in combat.
Gadem continued to fly missions for Zeon in the expansion of lunar territory and the capture of more factories, which led to Zeon's expanding mobile suit production and engineering. Even with the advent of the Zaku II, Gadem continued to use his own Zaku I.
Before being reassigned to a supply ship for the Supply Corps, Gadem was ordered to deploy to Quintzem, a colony of Side 3, to quash an anti-Zabi coup d'etat; a worrisome assignment, as this was where his friend, Gordan, was on leave. Gadem's worst fears were realized, and found that his friend's house was destroyed and in flames, along with his friend's flower garden.
After the surrender of the coup d'etat forces, Gadem, mourning the death of his friend, swore to deliver the mobile suits his friend helped developed with him.
During the One Year War, Gadem was sent by Dozle Zabi to resupply Char Aznable's Musai after a failed reconnaissance mission at Side 7. Their ships rendezvoused at Luna II.
Unfortunately, they were detected by the crew of the White Base. White Base sent out Amuro Ray in the RX-78-2 Gundam and Ryu Jose in the FF-X7 Core Fighter to destroy the ship. The two went around the ships so that the sun was behind them, rendering the Gundam and the Core Fighter invisible.
While the Musai and Char fended off the attacks, Gadem attempted to unload as many supplies as possible before his ship was destroyed. He managed to escape however, in his MS-05B Zaku I. Gadem tried to destroy the Gundam without weapons to avenge his honor despite the warnings of Char, but the Gundam manages to destroy his Zaku I [2].
